Is it tacky to post a picture of the ring on social media sites?

Sarah, on May 17, 2013 at 4:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

What do you think? Did you post a pic of your ring on Facebook, etc., or not?

Edited to add: I personally did not. I posted pictures of my FH proposing, but not of the ring itself. I didn't want to look like I was bragging.

I personally didn't, but I don't think it is tacky. I see it all the time and I like seeing other girls' rings. Plus you are celebrating and wanting to share the good news.

    I don't think that it's tacky. I just don't really care.

I never posted a picture of my ring because random folks didn't need to know about it (the actual ring) or that I'm engaged -- if you matter, you'd know from one of us, not from FB.

I think some people go overboard with posting the ring. Nothing wrong with one picture, but some people do every angle and post the specs on it (carat, cut, where he got it) and that's just in poor taste, to me.

I don't think it's tacky at all, I love seeing my friend's rings on there when they get engaged. I didn't put mine up initially, but a couple of my friends asked to see a picture of it so I ended up putting it up.

I don't know if I think it is or not, but I intentionally did not post one. I just feel like its not about the ring, its about the man. I love my ring and am proud to show it off in person, but for some reason I can't quite articulate, I didn't think it was appropriate or would send the right message.

I don't think it's tacky! I like looking at other rings too! I posted some pictures but it was mostly me posing with the ring when he proposed.

I did. It was how we announced it and we were cool with it. I agree with Reenski though, there is such a thing as too much detail. A picture is one thing, specs on the ring is over doing it.

I announced we were engaged on social media and the first thing people asked was “show us the ring!” So I ended up posting it. I don’t think it’s tacky. Whenever someone gets engaged one of the first things they do is post the ring, and I like seeing the rings.

I also agree with Reenski that there is no need to be sharing any specs on it. If I see someone posting that on FB, I do consider that to be in bad taste. However I see nothing wrong with posting photos of it. Most people like to see it and if you don't post it, many will ask.

I'm probably guilty of sharing photos of my ring too much (when I first got engaged and then every ring topic on WW lol), and I did post it on facebook after the engagement. I just love it and how unique it is. For me it's fun to share photos of the ring when you know that there is not another one exactly like it.

Have you seen what else is posted on facebook?! LOL a ring is far from tacky in comparison.

I don't think it's tacky. I did it. Everyone asked to see it as soon as we announced our engagement, and I was so happy and proud of the ring I wanted to show it off!

I posted my ring only because I come from the realm of "seeing is believing". I knew once the engagement was announced my family and friends would HAVE to see the ring, not to marvel at its beauty, but to make sure I'm being serious, Lol. That might sound weirdl, but even I can be a harsh skeptic at times. So I get it.

I did, only because people I wouldn't see in a while wanted to see it. So facebook was an easy way to do that. I posted one picture, with no 'info' on it though. No one needs to know its size or anything.

My sister posts nothing but her boyfriend's terrible, emo poems. I had to tell her finally to stop wasting precious facebook megabytes.

@bad Wolf: so true!!! You made me laugh. It's crazy how much people put up, so I'm leaning towards not tacky Smiley smile

    Omg so tacky.

Jk I don't know. I'm not on FB or any other social media sites. I don't think I would find it tacky.
