Is it too soon?

Haleigh, on August 9, 2021 at 7:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I just got engaged about a week ago on the beach. The most beautiful picture perfect time ever. I am now trying to plan however the venue we want is not open till 2023. We are okay with waiting that long. (i mean its been almost 10 years already) My question now is, is it to early to start actually planning and do dress shopping and looking for catering?

Firstly, congratulations! The newly engaged feeling is wonderful! Are you able to book your venue so you secure your date, if so, I definitely don’t think it’s too early to get your major vendors locked in. We got our big vendors (venue, caterer, photographers) secured about 22 months out and were able to lock in cheaper rates in doing so. I would, however, not book any other vendor until you secure your venue in the off chance that your date becomes unavailable with the venue. Also, I’d not shop for a dress until closer to the wedding, starting to look about a year out. Your style, size, and preferences may change or you may see a dress in a newer collection that you like more and run the risk of the very real dress regret.

I would wait until you have a date booked at a venue. Caterers won't finalize anything with you until you can tell them your date, location, and roughly how many guests. You can start browsing gowns now, but again, I wouldn't buy until you know the season and date of your wedding. You want the gown to be comfortable and appropriate for the weather, formality, etc. If you want to get a head start now, the first things you should do are always set a budget and draft a guest list.

Don’t look for dresses yet. You can find a style you like but don’t go shopping yet. I’m getting married in March of 2023 and we just booked our venue which includes catering, photographers, DJ and florists

I would wait until you have a wedding date booked before you plan on anything else because the prices can change depending on the month you are going to get married in

    Congratulations!!!!!

I know it seems like forever away, but it will come fast! Having the time will give you both time to plan a budget, small details, and notify family/friends if they have to travel a distance etc. on a potential date you are choosing.

Most venues won't let you book that far in advanced, but you can go look. A lot of wedding expos give free stuff out/discounts on vendors so I would check into ones close to your area.

As for the dress give it time. I had a lot of friends who purchased in advanced due to impulse and loving the dress, they didn't see the dress for a while, a year later when it was time to really start planning they second guessed themselves on the dress they chose due to changing a lot of things up and ended up having to buy another dress.

Beauty is you have time. Enjoy Smiley smile

I would definitely wait to go dress shopping!!! I shopped June 2020 for August 2021 and still wish I would've waited a bit. I love my dress, but my taste definitely changed a bit. Sizing also changed, I ordered a size up to be safe and still having issues with it being a touch small.

As far as other vendors go, I would go for it! The sooner you book, the more you will get to pick who you actually want and won't have to worry about availability Smiley smile

If you're set on the venue then book now since they obviously book up! Anything decor-wise including the dress and colors, wait because your tastes will change! Also, wait before choosing bridal party. You never know how relationships will pan out. There's no harm in doing your research though. You can also strategize your budget and start saving for deposits.
