Is it worth it?

ReyaSunshine23, on April 19, 2022 at 6:43 PM Posted in Planning 10 28
So I think I have a handle on most everything in concept form at least but I have to know. Is paying for a videographer worth it????? Or should I just stick with the photography?

I had video and i love it. i watch it often. i don't look at my photos that often because i'm not going to scroll through hundreds of them - but i can watch a 3 minute highlight of my day.

HOWEVER i think it depends on budget too because it can be really expensive. if you've got a good photographer already and it's not in your budget for video then it is ok to skip

Nope. Unless you are the type that likes watching old home videos I personally think it’s a waste of money. Spend that on a cool photo booth.

For me and my FH, we both have lost a set of grandparents each, so for us, having something that we can look back on and see our living grandmas dancing and hear our living grandpas give the blessing, and have that audio reminder of them when they're gone (as morbid as that sounds) was worth it for us to splurge on it

We paid BIG dollars for our photographer as we weren’t going to do video at first. I changed my mind and decided I wanted video too. I have a TERRIBLE memory due to some medical issues and I want to be able to hear what was said during our first look and hear our vows. So now we’re paying a lot for video as well 🙃 certainly not in the budget but 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’ll get a 6 minute highlight video, a “documentary” video which is basically unedited video of our whole ceremony and then video of our first dance and cake cutting etc. and then we might pay to have access to all of the raw footage from the day but not sure on that last bit yet. The bill is large but hopefully worth it

Yea I’m thinking if we get a videographer it’ll be for the multiple videos and raw footage. The trick is finding it at a reasonable price and still have quality experience and performance. Thank you so much for sharing!!

You have still shots from your photographer and the you have a video that you look at as many times as you want. So we are considering having 1

We specifically looked for a combination photographer and videographer because we wanted both and that saved a lot of money. I love looking at wedding videos already so I’m so excited to have our own to watch and remember exactly what we said and how everything happened.

" Is paying for a videographer worth it?" : if you and/or your future spouse trully want one and you can afford it , then it will worth it no matter what . We decided to skip it and decide to splurge on photography with 2 shooters + a photobooth (that is both a favor and an alternative entertainment for those who don't like dancing) because we know we wouldn't watch a video more than once if not never, should we decide to hire one. My parents want us to have a video and offered to pay for that because "we will end up regretting our decision" but we said "absoutely not, we would regret hiring a vidographer" and money isn't an issue since we can afford one without having to cut on other areas, they still don't get that we DON'T want one.

Honestly this was something I was set on having, my fiancé didn’t really mind either. For me I really wanted to have a video we could rewatch and reminisce on. I was able to find someone who would provide a highlight reel and an hour long edited video as well so I was sold. I know not everyone does them so it’s really up to what you’re looking for! Pictures are timeless and classic as well ❤️

If you think you'd like to have some video but can't afford an actual videographer, consider streaming - either just the ceremony, or the ceremony and the speeches! That's what we chose to do, and it was really reasonably priced. I'm so glad we did, and I actually wish we'd asked to have the speeches streamed as well!

I originally didn't think I'd really want any videos of the day - I thought of myself as awkward and a bit gangly, and watching myself on film would be so uncomfortable! But then my sister live streamed her wedding, and watching it back, I was surprised by how much more graceful I was than I imagined! Plus it was SO nice to be able to watch parts of the ceremony I'd been involved in, so wasn't really able to properly see.

There are so many tiny moments you miss in just a photograph that are captured in a video. For example I asked one of best friends to record our first dance, and there's a moment where all our guests burst into the song together, and it was one of the most moving, special moments of the day. A photo, however amazing, wouldn't have captured that the same way.

Well worth it and I wish I'd asked the same friend or the streaming service to record the speeches as well as the first dance. I honestly don't think you'd regret it. As one of the other posters said, one day when some of our loved ones have passed on, how nice will it be to watch them dancing, laughing and interacting with us at our wedding?

I get that! We’re paying $3550 for video and that’s one of the cheapest I could find for the area we’re getting married! And double that for our photographer 🙃 but he’s a NY photographer traveling to maryland for us. We got excited and went beyond the amount we can afford and it’s been very stressful. Don’t make that mistake lol

Omg that was so special, thank you for that and yes I think I’m leaning towards videographer with streaming since we r out of state for most all of our family

"I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want it if your not paying for it but hey to each their own!": Because it's not about money, we could pay for a 'high-end' videographer had we wanted to hirr one... it's about us not being fans of wedding videos in general and knowing we would watch it once, if not 0. I understand the pros for having one like the fact that photos don't capture/record the sound but it doesn't convince us.
It's like this other situation we faced with family we knew from the get-go we would have a non-religious ceremony even though we both believe in God but we are non-practicing catholics . My parents and one grandma offered to pay for the ceremony( priest fees, church fees, church décor) if we opted for a catholic event . We said no but had we wanted to have one, we would have decline their money and paid by ourselves since we can afford that and because their money would come with VERY big strings attached (especially inviting tons of people I haven't met and neither have my fiancé) . .It's not about money either since we can pay for everything by ourselves and we could invite more people without maxing out our budget... but it's about our vision and our wants. The same applies to videography.

Definitely worth it. There are so many moments photography won’t catch. I want to look back and see moments were our guests are having a good time and I won’t catch that entirely even with two photographers.
