Is Makeup a Must?

So I normally never wear makeup. I'm not against makeup, I just never know how to make it look good and feel I never have the time to try. Well, I went and had my makeup done for our engagement photos and my FH basically wanted me to wipe it off... He says he doesn't feel I need it and it just...
So I normally never wear makeup. I'm not against makeup, I just never know how to make it look good and feel I never have the time to try. Well, I went and had my makeup done for our engagement photos and my FH basically wanted me to wipe it off... He says he doesn't feel I need it and it just doesn't look like "me" (which I somewhat agree with). While I would like to wear makeup for me because I do feel pretty when it is applied, I know I wouldn't want anything too crazy done and something just very soft and natural. With that being said, is makeup even needed for my wedding? Do I really need to spend the money to get my makeup done when all I really want is to look like "me" and not anything I probably can't do myself?

Keep in mind that how we look when being photographed with lots of lighting comes across differently than how we look in normal life. This is why a little makeup, sometimes more than you normally wear, is usually helpful so you actually look like "you" instead of a sick version of you in the photos. A good MUA should be able to do your makeup so you still look like you but do it in a way that it translates well in pictures under harsh lighting.

I guess is up to you. I would personally recommend it for your pictures and so you look the best option of yourself. If you don’t wear much make up you can simply have a light natural make up and I recommend airbrush which it looks more natural. I also recommend a trial so you work with the make up artist and you see what you like and you don’t.

It’s not required but I think a natural look can be obtained a lot easier and quicker than you think. I’ve always found that Carmindy from What Not to Wear always transformed people without making them look caked up. Check out her 5 minute face here:

I think so, personally. Even if it feels/looks like too much to you, it really will photograph SO much better. You could also practice at home and just do your own.

I do not think it is necessary. It is your day so your choice!

Of course makeup is not necessary! But you said it makes you feel pretty, so why not have some makeup you like? You don’t have to have a full-on makeup. There are many makeup artists who specialize in natural look & you can tell them exactly what you want. You can also do it yourself. But based on what you wrote, it sounds like you probably don’t have makeup products or experience to apply it, so it might be cheaper to hire someone vs. to go & buy all products just for the wedding.

I really don’t think your FH should be the deciding factor in whether or not you wear makeup. It’s your personal choice.

In photos, your facial features will stand out more with some eye makeup (even just mascara), some lipstick & even complexion. But that doesn’t mean you will look “washed out” in photos without makeup. So it’s really up to you.
I wear some makeup on regular basis & I’m decently skilled with it. I did my makeup for our engagement shoot (I just upped my regular makeup) & my face looks flawless in photos! So if you have skills in applying makeup, you can definitely do it yourself & look great on camera.

Typically I don't wear makeup, but I will be using some to cover any dark circles or blemishes. Just to make pictures look a little nicer.

I am so much like you! I never wear makeup but when I get my makeup done I make sure they know I’m want and will only wear a natural look. Very very light make up is all I will wear!

Hi! Personally, if you are going to have a photagrapher at the wedding, I suggest you wearing mascara and some light makeup. I never want girls wearing too much on the wedding day. I think your makeup artist must have went overboard with you so maybe go to a friend who does her make up and ask her to do yours just to see yourself.
The reason I say that is because the photos will turn out to be more bland than you would expect. If you wear makeup, the photos will be more defined and to make you look good.
At the end, it's about your comfort so if you think whoever did your make up bad, then dont do it! But please please, just because someone did it bad doesnt mean make up looks bad on you over all. You can't say all paintings are bad just because you saw one thats not good!
    Wish you well!

Its definitely not necessary. I never wear makeup, so this came up for me too. If I decide to use any, I will do it myself and go with lip gloss, mascara and eye makeup.
At the end of the day, do what makes you comfortable!

I feel similarly honestly since I knew I wanted minimal makeup and a natural look I knew i could do it myself, and that a makeup artist would go way heavier than I wanted anyway. This is the best picture I have right now of my face right after I did my makeup... on my face, I used: primer, a matte foundation, concealer, a bit of blush, and a powder (powder makes it last longer and makes your skin less shiny and oily which is a problem I often have). Then I used eyeliner, mascara, a cream eyeshadow as a base and then powder, and lipstick.

Sounds like a lot when you write it out I guess hahaha but it was a very minimalistic, natural look and I felt my best and got tons of compliments.

As a makeup artist I see all types of bridal makeup. I suggest going as natural and lite weight for your big day as you don't wear makeup. A touch of lip gloss a dab of blush and a little mascara and eyeliner. I think you will be beautiful any way you choose
