Is my ring too big?

Ashley, on May 22, 2018 at 9:02 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17
Hey everyone! Just have a quick question about how my ring fits. I currently have an 8.5 and it slides around the base of my finger a lot even with it being super warm but it’s a little rough to get off over my knuckle. Should i maybe see if i can get resized to a 7.5 or 8? I have really small fingers for a guy i guess lol

Hi John! It seems like you could use resizing, but I would just bring it to a jeweler to be exact! You don’t want any mishaps with a loose ring! Good luck!

My ring fits similarly, but my ring finger was broken really severely in high school. Although the doctors reset it and pinned it, it will always appear crooked. Due to this, my ring fits super snuggly over my knuckle and more loosely at the base of my finger. Talk to your jeweler, they will be able to help you out. They took my ring to a 7.25 size to get it as close to the proper size at the base as they could while still fitting over the knuckle.

Was your finger measured before ordering your ring?

A ring should be able to slide on easily, but not pull off easily. If you have that little stop over your knuckle, then you're good, IMO. You don't want them to be too tight!

My rings can turn around on my finger and are easy to slide on, but they'd never just fall off my finger. As long as you don't feel like the ring is actually going to fall off, I'd leave the size alone.

Yeah i could probably get away with a 7.5 honestly. That’s like the average size for a woman’s ring isn’t it?😂😋

My FW had that same problem. We bought a ring adjuster on Amazon. It worked wonders!

Yes it was measured. She originally wanted me to wear a 9 but it felt way too loose so i went with a 8.5. But it definitely won’t slide off but i don’t really like it wiggling up and down the bottom of my finger haha

If the fit isn’t comfortable, I would recommend resizing, but it sounds like it’s a very minor adjustment. Be careful not to make it too small (if the 8.5 is rough over the knuckle, a 7.5 would be WAY too small)— rings are able to be sized in quarter sizes, I’d imagine you’d only need to go down a quarter, so an 8.25 is probably sufficient.

Then I wouldn't resize it, because it sounds like the the fit is correct. Instead, I'd do something that can be removed if you gain weight or your fingers swell in the future, like a ring snuggie or sizing beads. Rings can only be resized 2, maybe 3 times before you're compromising the integrity of the ring, so it's something you should avoid doing, if possible.

Ohh okay i didn’t realize that a 7.5 would be so much smaller. Maybe I’ll try the 8-8.25

Again, I'd strongly advise against resizing, at least not without trying a more temporary solution first...

They have "ring sizers" on Amazon that are plastic rings you can put around the base of your ring to make it fit tighter. They are super cheap. I'd order those first, so you see how it feels tighter. Then if you like it, you can resize your ring.

I have the same problem. I have tiny tiny tiny fingers and my knuckles are a bit bigger than the base of my fingers. I originally had my engagement ring sized at a 4 but it kept slipping and sliding everywhere on my finger and turning upside down. I sized it down to a 3.75. It fits on my finger much better - no sliding. Most of the time I can get it over my knuckle without much of an issue. But it its warm out, my finger swells up and the ring will not move (even leaves an indent mark on my skin). I just use some lotion to get it off during those times.

I'm a little worried about both my wedding band and the engagement ring being sized to a 3.75 (need to resize the wedding band still) because I'm worried with both of them together, it would made the overall size a little wider and therefore fit more snug on my finger.

Here is my advise for you. Go to a jewelry store, any one you like and have them size your finger.

Definitely re-size it or get a sizer. I've lost weight and mine is too big...and it flew off two weekends ago, and I lost a diamond, on the setting. So, I have no ring for four weeks and it's not even on the same coast as I am!
