Is One Better Than The Other?

Jasmine, on November 4, 2019 at 2:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 36

I was thinking about doing a seating chart for the longest time but the more I look into it, I see that escort/place cards are also pretty easily manageable. Now I'm not so sure which to do.

What are you using or have you used? Do you believe one is better/more efficient?

For me, it would depend on how much space I have. If I have a large table, then place cards would be a feasible option, but if I have a small table and a lot of guests, the chart may be better.

We did escort cards because we needed to label meal choice. I think escort cards are easier because you can make last minute changes and everyone isn’t crowded around a small board trying to find their name. But it depends on the space you have available!

My venue can fit up to 300 guests and my guest list is about 130 so I feel like I would be able to fit a large table if needed. But I guess it also depends on the layout.

We're having a buffet but I guess like you said as long as we have the space we could still use escort cards. I totally agree though. I didn't think too much about having a big crowd and then having to scan through all the table numbers. Could take awhile.

I think escort or seating cards are good if you've got a small amount of people. They don't work well if you've a ton of guests, so that's an instance where q

    chart is better

I think escort cards are easier for both the couple and the guests. For the couple: you can quickly and easily make last minute changes (can't do that with a seating chart). For the guests: they can quickly find their card and then use that card to claim their seat for the night instead of cramming around the seating chart trying to find their name. I disagree with Melle about the seating chart being good with a large guest list because then it would be very congested around the seating chart and difficult for guests to quickly find their name.

We did a seating chart by table, then place cards at each setting. You only need to do place cards if you want to assign individual seats (typically these are accompanied by seating charts as well), but you can do just escort cards if you only want to assign tables.

That's kind of what I was starting to think as well which is why I asked. Maybe someone figured a way to maneuver around it gracefully lol. So would everyone including kids get escort cards?

Some people do the cards by family, but I prefer individuals, even kids, getting their own.

I think escort cards are far easier than one big chart.

Yes, definitely something to think about. I've already talked to my FH about it and he's on board with escort cards as well. Thank you so much!

I agree. We've definitely talked it out and after this post, we've decided to go with escort cards.

Dumb question but can someone explain what escort cards are to me? I've never seen them. Why are they so much better?

Our venue coordinator suggested escort cards. She said that while the charts are pretty and all over Pinterest. They tend to back up the line when people are looking for their seats more often than escort cards do

Escort cards are cards you have on a table for with your guests names on them with what table number they are assigned to. It seems it's easier to find your name on a card (especially if in alphabetical order) than everyone crowded around a seating chart looking up under every table number on the chart.
