How high or low of a priority is photography at your wedding?
I wanted to share this article with you all: https://offbeatbride.com/no-budget-for-wedding-photography/
The author reveals how her entire budget of $1,500 was less than the average cost for a professional photographer in her local area. As quoted, "I thought about how weddings have been taking place for probably tens of thousands of years, and how photography has only been around for a couple of centuries. Even a couple of generations ago, it was not uncommon to have only a dozen pictures of a wedding, or maybe only one."
She goes on to say that she doesn't regret skipping out on professional wedding photography.
What are your thoughts on this?

Hi Veronica, that's very true. Although, I love my in law's wedding photos from 50 years ago and theirs were taken by an amateur.

Okay thanks for your insight. I honestly do feel that many photographers overcharge, but consumers allow them to and are willing to pay thousands. My FH's parents have been married for 50 years!!! Their wedding photos are absolutely beautiful and they paid about $150. With inflation, thats about $600 to $700 today. Taken by a local part time photographer too. Crazy!

Oh wow, that's too bad. My inlaws have been married for 50 years and did not have a professional. Their pics were absolutely beautiful! They had a large wedding though that was planned a year in advance. So, different situation.

Hi Michelle, thanks for tour insight. There are many stories as well about brides being unhappy bc the pro photographer had an emergency and they had to use a backup who was not as good. I would be disappointed after paying $3,000 or more.

Oh my gosh! Thanks for this Sweetness, I agree with everything you said. It's exhausting looking at hundreds of photos. Society pressures us to capture every single mother.

The only stories I have read about pros being bad is that people do not do research and go with the first person they meet who turns out not what they expected. For example, they ignore the bad reviews thinking it's a fluke or the previous couples didn't review them, and many couples including here say they only go with vendors who have reviews. As can be attested by WW rating system, many bad reviews are removed.

A true professional will be like other ladies described they are wanting, not a bad apple.

Okay thanks for your comment. Things can always go wrong. Just wanted others' opinions. I definitely will go for a professional photographer, I'm just not willing to spend $3,000 to $5,000 for it. Especially since I have debt.

I do think for most people photography is the biggest priority, ok maybe after the dress. The pictures are an amazing representation of a really important day.

We aren’t having a photographer because we are both REALLY REALLY camera shy. So much so that when we were talking about having a wedding, we dreaded the idea. It was kind of a lightbulb moment “OH WAIT WE DON’T HAVE TO!” For me, I know I am not “conventionally” attractive and it will really tarnish my memories when I see the photos, it never fails - I will feel really good at an event, then see a photo after and will just deflate. I don’t want to feel that way about my wedding.

Omg! You took the words out of my mouth. I dislike pics of myself too! Nearly all of them. The few I like are when I was an infant and toddler lol. Thanks for being brutally honest.

Photography is definitely a top priority for me. I personally would rather pay a little more to have a good photographer. These are the pictures I will have to look back in from my wedding day and kmI want them to be good quality.
