Is the cost of catering..

Really justified? I feel like they just rip you off because it's a wedding. $10,000 for 100 people just seems outrageous. I honestly have no idea what goes into catering, could someone inform me? Because I feel like it's a huge scam. Okay, vent over and I'll suck it up. *sigh*

If I were to go to a restaurant and have a nice meal with a lot of alcohol, it'd run my husband and I over $100 easily. I was easily expecting around $100 per person for my per person cost - it's a hell of a lot harder to serve 100 people all around the same time and keep the food warm so you need more servers and I'm also reserving their space "privately" so I'm taking up a space that could otherwise accommodate 2-3 times the amount of people, and they're decorating it how I'd like them too. The cost has always been justified for me though I'm not expecting Olive Garden or Applebees either - which would probably be 20-30 per person if I went out to eat. I guess it probably depends on what you're used to paying when you go out to eat by yourself.

Catering, like all other costs, is a regional thing. Pretty much zero venues in my area allow outside caterers and if they do, they have a specified list of them and you can't just choose your own. This limits you to their prices. Our venue charges $69 per person + 7% meal tax and 20% service charge. This is one of the cheapest options we looked at too.

Unfortunatly it's just not possible to have a restaurant or something cater things for cheaper.

The last time we went out to dinner in a nice restaurant in NJ, with two drinks each and three courses with a tip, it was almost 200.00.

It all depends on what you want. It's not a 'scam'; it's the cost of quality, service, decor, insurance and everything else.

There are plenty of ways to celebrate a wedding, from backyard potlucks to fancy catered dinners. The trick is finding the way that suits your budget and your style.

It depends on the location think about getting a venue where they have there on caterers or hire a wedding planner and she should have preferred vendors.

I'm paying $28/head for 220 people. I'm trying to negotiate no other fees with that. We'll see if that works!

My cousin's grandma owns a catering company. She cooks for 300 people for a little over $800. She just hires her church friends to help out the day of and instead of paying them, makes a donation to their church. I wish I had the option to bring a caterer of choice to my venue!

I work in catering and you really have to think of all the work and effort that goes in to planning a wedding $100 a plate is not a lot.. Remember you get what you pay for... So there's many ways to go around it and get it for "cheap" then it will be "cheap"
