Is the "honeymoon fund" a thing?

I've heard of people doing a jar that says "Honeymoon Fund" on it. Is it an actual thing that a lot of people do or what? FH and I were talking about it but him and a few other people I have asked has never even heard of it. Like instead of buying a rather expensive wedding gift they could put a...

I've heard of people doing a jar that says "Honeymoon Fund" on it. Is it an actual thing that a lot of people do or what? FH and I were talking about it but him and a few other people I have asked has never even heard of it. Like instead of buying a rather expensive wedding gift they could put a little money towards the honeymoon funds? If that makes any sense.

Thank you for your opinions and thoughts(:

Just here to echo previous posters. If I saw what was basically a glorified tip jar at a wedding, not only would I not give a gift (even if I'd brought one), I'd probably straight up leave. Tacky and rude

Yikes. I guess I never saw this as rude. My FH and I were thinking of doing this because we have a very small house, literally don't need/want any more material things. We have no room. I've attended weddings where the bride and groom ask for dinner or excursions for their honeymoon and I didn't think anything of it. In my experience with friends who have gotten married, if they didn't register for gifts they just got other gifts they didn't really want, not necessarily cash. I guess I'll be rethinking this!! Glad I read this post...

FMIL made a jar for us that said "honeymoon fund" and gave it to us at our engagement party. We keep it in our bedroom and collect our loose change there. But it did sit out at our engagement party and a few people threw in some change but we definitely weren't asking and it was technically a gift. I would never set up a cash website. We live together and do not need much so our registry is small. If people want to give cash or gift cards they will or they'll find a gift they think you'll like that you didn't register for. I always give gift cards at weddings, but I always buy a gift for the bridal shower if im invited. Idk, I hate carrying presents into weddings.

I wasn't going to do it at all, because I feel like if we are going on a honeymoon we should be able to afford it ourselves. Thank you all so much for your input.

Emily S, same here that's why I asked. Our house it so small as well so we would have no room to put absolutely anything.

I'm really sorry if I offended anyone by asking this question because it seems like I did. It was just a simple question. I wasn't going to do it, I just wanted to know if it was a thing or not.

UGH. Honeyfunds are one of the tackiest wedding trends I've ever heard of, next to people paying for their own meals at a rehearsal dinner.

They're a total scam. Most of the sites you can use to create one take a percentage of that money AND they take a while to give you the rest of that money donated anyway. Don't do it. They're popular because people become entitled during wedding planning and think they deserve whatever they want, including someone's hard earned money to fund their after-wedding vacation.

    *rolls eyes*
