Is there anyone else planning their wedding in less than a year?!?!

Hi! I got engaged on 1/27/19 (my birthday) and I’m getting married 8/17/19. I see that most people plan for 12-24 months. When I tell people I’m planning in 6 months they say I’m CRAZY! Any tips on how to make this planning in such a short time as smooth as possible? Thanks !

Yup, my engagement will only be 9 months; planning for about 7 of 'em. If I was planning a large traditional white wedding, I'd be pulling my hair out right about now. Most vendors are ridiculous about their schedules and expectations.
But as it stands I have 50 days out and only need to buy alcohol, put together diys (favor, centerpieces, bouquets), and finalize logistics. It's completely doable.

Oh, advise... Have a solid plan each month including; what will be done, who's doing it, and what's the deadline (hard and soft). Wedding checklists are great. You just have to modify them to your plan.
Once your month's itinerary is done - STOP. Give you, your FS, and your planning team a break to enjoy the experience and have non-wedding time.

We originally had a year and a half but had to stop planning because I was working three jobs, getting my MBA, and he had health issues arise. Now we are planning the whole thing in seven months!!

As suggested in another forum someone mentioned fiftyflowers.com and the site is GREAT. My aunt in law who is a florist in their native country has agreed after showing her the site to do our floral arrangements and bouquets! I’m in metro NY and the florist prices are IMO totally ridiculous.

I got engaged this past December, and our wedding is in October! We have our venue booked and the photographer. I’ve also called a lot of other vendors to see when I need to book them by in order to guarantee them in October.. turns out, most do not need to be booked until this summer if not even later. I think it depends where you’re planning your wedding- where I am having my wedding is not in a big city and I’m not planning on a huge white wedding. That being said, you should start calling around to see what is booked and a budget. This will give you a great starting point so you know how quickly you need to act!

That’s awesome! I might look at that website! I’m just a tad north of LA and florist prices (along with EVERY other vendor) are through the roof here as well! Something about big cities and their over the top prices!

I wish I had done this! Our is 17 months long and it feels sooooo drawn out and has allowed time for people to create unnecessary drama. Just dive in and you've got this!

We've been engaged and have known we would be planning a wedding since March, but we didn't make a final decision on our date and start actually planning the wedding until January. We are getting married on 7/10/19 so if you count from the date of engagement, it's over a year, if you count from when we started the planning process, it's 6 months. The best advice I can give you is figure out what is most important to the both of you, really do your research to find deals and vendors that are a good fit for your vision, be prepared to make compromises, and create a solid timeline (and stick to it) to reduce planning stress and ensure you get everything done in time.

    Got engaged this past NYE.

Planning for August 24 of this year.

FH got super sick for most of January. We're pretty much doing this in about 6 1/2 months. We're lucky - we're in the NYC area, so lots of choices, no matter what. I'd like to be making decisions faster, but some life stuff is getting in the way. We'll make it work, though!

Yep. 4 months. We have actually been engaged for 3 years but only decided on getting married once we saw what our tax returns were this year. Basically I picked my vendors, decided on a venue, and went with whatever date everyone had available. I honestly don't know why it takes 2 years to plan a wedding. We figured as long as we had all vendors booked before STD's had to go out, then we were good.

Side note, I'm a construction project engineer, so I can drive a timeline and make good, fast decisions. I also had a good idea on what we wanted for everything. As of right now, I have absolutely everything done and am just waiting for dates to get here to do more. No way I could drag this out for more than a few months

Nothing is better than organization. You can organize on your phone, or in a DIY wedding planner. I would suggest first thinking about vendors that YOU need for your special day. After that is done, reach out to them. Most people email back the next day. Gather your wedding party together. Get your girls to help with decor ideas. Create a guest list and send out invitations fast. That’s the first thing I created when he set the date.

The most important thing is being organized and creating a checklist for yourself. It was helpful for me to google vendors needed at a wedding and then customizing that list to my needs.

We got engaged in November 2018 and are getting married in October of this year, so a little less than a year. However a friend of mine just got married Friday and they actually got engaged November 2018 as well. So if they could do it in a little over 3 months you can definitely do it! And their wedding was absolutely gorgeous!

Yes a great deal! It was the only Saturday he had available in the season we wanted (kinda). We really wanted fall, but that seems to be peak season even more than summer. So he was flexible. The ceremony fee was waived which is usually $750. The package covers the venue for 6 1/2 hours including the ceremony, cocktail hour, which is unbelievable the amount of food they offer, main course, open bar AND the cake. Linen and napkins are also covered.

When we went for our tasting the food was delicious ! Since it’s a country club we have use of the facility the entire day which for me is HUGE because I’m terrible with time, I don’t have to be rushed. The bridal suite will be ours for the day. My fiancé, parents and I fell in love. We booked right away. An added bonus was that it’s 15-20 minutes away from
home. I called around and did some google searching and we are definitely getting a bang for our buck. Westchester NY can be quite pricey.

I am happy, but my timing is short. All the advice about organization and planning is so helpful.

That is great that you don't have any restrictions to access to the venue on your wedding day. However be mindful when creating your wedding day time line because you definitely do not want get hit with overtime charges from vendors. Because you wedding did not start on time. Ex DJ, Photographer.
