Is this a reasonable price for Bridesmaid dresses?

I'm contributing $50 to each as I feel that I should on top of their gifts that includes a Coach wristlet, personalized satin robe, personalized compact mirror, bracelet and a few other small items.

Is this fair? Thoughts?

**update: this is CANADIAN pricing.

Also, I'm not justifying the price of the dress by expressing the gifts. Read what I wrote carefully, I am mentioning the gifts in regards to the $50 I am helping to subsidize for the dresses.

I find it weird that you need to express what their gifts are to justify the price of a dress. It's a gift. Stop it.

If they are all fine with paying the $200, then I don't see the big deal. I think that would be about the highest I'd be willing to pay. My dress from David's Bridal is $150 after taxes and everything for a wedding in August.

That dress from Davids Bridal is $150 AMERICAN correct? That would be about $193 CANADIAN today and that's with the dollar being decent. Mine is $6.00 more at $198.

I'm still confused why you mentioned the gifts even if later on you just say the gift doesn't matter... So why'd you tell us about it?

Because part of the gift is subsidizing the dress. I just wanted people to have a full back ground on everything being spent.

Probably just should have said you are giving them $50.00 toward the dress.

Regardless, it's only reasonable if they think it's reasonable. What WW says doesn't really matter in this case.

I think the point being made is that the only portion of your BM gifts that is relevant to this conversation is the money you are putting towards their dresses. The other stuff has nothing to do with the dress.

I agree with @ELK. If your BMs previously told you they were okay spending $200 Canadian, then this should be okay.

Sounds like your bridesmaids are ok with the price, so that means it's fine. My bridesmaids dresses were a little over $150 (US) and although I was uncomfortable with it because I didn't want them spending so much, my bridesmaids were expecting the price to be what it was, and didn't want any money towards it. They did get a discount for buying the dresses at the same shop where I bought mine.

My BM's don't even want to spend $100 on their dresses...even after they chose $170 dresses. I gave them color and length, thats it. Point is, they should spend whatever they can afford.

I personally wouldn't mind paying $200 for a dress if I can wear again. Totally talk to your girls and see what they think but i think it's a fair price.

My Maid of Honors dress is around $200 before tax. I am still iffy on if I should even pick that dress because of the price. After all, they are stuck with the dress after the wedding.

I paid $300 for a dress from Nordstrom. Not including shoes or accessories and I still have to pay for my hair and makeup day of. I think it's a little much, but it's her day and it's a pretty dress I can hopefully wear again.

Did you ask your bridesmaids about their budget before you fell in love with a dress? For some people $50 is too much. Some are comfortable with more. That's what determines reason ability. Not strangers on the Internet. Also I think over $200 is expensive for a bridesmaid dress.

I would talk to them and see what they are comfortable spending. They might only be comfortable spending $150 and then that dress would definitely surprise them.

That would not be in my budget at all. The most I've paid is $100 for a bridal party dress, and that was when I was MOH. You need to ask them how much they can spend.

I love the dress on the right! Is this a store that's in the US too?

I think that's fine. For my wedding the BM dress was $210 CND. It also depends on your girls though. Make sure they can afford it before you finalize that decision.
