Is this dress too white for a wedding?

Mireya, on May 18, 2023 at 3:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi, I'm Mireya and later this summer I'm attending a cousin's wedding. The dress code is rather casual, it's on a beach and it's boho-style. I'm not usually a dress person, so I only have a few dresses acceptable for weddings, and they all look kind of like this. Is this dress too white for a wedding? 1

I'm in financial hell right now and piggybacking off my sister's money, so I did not want to go out and buy an entirely new dress, but someone on reddit said it might be too bridal. I'm close with one of the bridesmaids, so I asked her what the bride was wearing so I don't accidentally F up and show up looking exactly like her. The bride's dress is pretty different than mine. It's tea length, ivory and lacey with long bell sleeves, so I don't think I could get mistaken for the bride. But I thought it would be a good idea to get some actual bride's opinions on the dress just in case.

Do you think this is too bridal for a wedding?

The dress is gorgeous and very appropriate for a guest. It is in no way whatsoever “too white” or “bridal” because no one anywhere with common sense will look at that and assume you are the bride nor that you are trying to upstage the bride. If they do, that is a them problem. I know that some other places online insist to the point of bullying and gaslighting that the above dress is “bridal” and that a dress with a even a sliver of white background or a white pattern (polka dots with a majority being a different color as an example) or the tag inside may be the only white and those are called “too white” and “upstaging the bride” deserving of being told to leave by security or the bride(zilla) has a group ready to ruin the guest’s attire with red wine. None of those scenarios is acceptable.

Do not spend extra money on a dress for one time wear if it is out of your budget. Especially since you said you don’t wear dresses that often. Only celebrities and people with more money than logic treat clothing as disposable and buy a new outfit for every single event without rewearing them. Don’t stress.

The etiquette prohibition is against all white dresses or those that are bridal in appearance. Nobody will mistake you for the bride. It's perfectly appropriate, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So, I'm normally in the camp of if you have to ask then you probably answered your question.

Your dress does not look bridal and I'm confident no one will "mistake you for the bride" but you may feel more comfortable in something else if not solely so you aren't worried about it all night.

Reddit is insane. If it has more than 50%white they tell you it's highly inappropriate.

There is a newer trend of the wildflower wedding dress look, since you know the bride isn't wearing that, then your dress is great for a beach wedding.

I’m team nothing white at all. The best bet is to ask the bride ( you could do this via the bridesmaid if you don’t want to reach out directly to the bride )
