Is this how a bustle looks?

Jay, on September 3, 2021 at 12:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
Hi everyone! Looking for either reassurance that this is expected or advice on what to request to fix it!

My dress has been bustled, & in the seamstress’s mirror it looked fine (i.e. from farther away) but after reviewing the photo my seamstress took I’m second guessing it. My biggest concerns are how visible the clear buttons are when it’s not bustled, & how long the loops look when it is bustled. Please disregard the safety pins, haha.
I don’t have much wedding dress experience so maybe this is just how they look super close up? Or maybe I’m just overthinking it (I don’t like bustles much as it is—we did explore both American & French for my dress & American looked slightly better). Is this how a bustle looks? 1
Here’s a photo from farther away, unbustled:Is this how a bustle looks? 2

This looks like a regular bustle to me.

That looks as expected to me. There are all different types of bustles and the attachment (hooks, buttons, etc.) placement will depend on the individual dress, but there will always need to be something to attach all of the skirt/train fabric to (and it's heavy!), so the fastening can never be truly invisible. The good news is that no guest will look at you THAT closely.

I'm not familiar with bustles, but if you look at this picture, it looks the same. The only thing i might suggest is maybe changing the buttons for matching ones to what's already on your dress. That might look a bit more cohesive!

There are definitely some ways to do a bustle that are less noticeable. My dress had a white hook where you have buttons and some threaded loops where you have ribbon loops. I don't have any pictures of it but you couldn't see any of the attachments without really looking for them.

I think that’s exactly what I need to bank on! I just wasn’t expecting it to be so obvious but I was staring directly at it xD

Ah very nice! I think that’s what’s bugging me—the visibility of the buttons. But I think I’ll just go with it—if it’s mostly working, with the time I have to go, I don’t want to have to deal with more fittings unless absolutely needed. Things I wish I had thought of earlier!

I’m glad you think so & I’m glad to hear it! It’s definitely a piece of the wedding I didn’t think too much about until now!

I have the same bustle. You can’t really see mine because of all the detail but yours is more noticeable because it’s a solid white dress. Also the loops are perfect. Mine actually got lost in the fabric when we were testing them out.

I’m definitely most unhappy with the button visibility—I was clear with the seamstress that that’s what I didn’t want, & I showed the seamstress photos of this dress with this same bustle done more subtly, but I guess she couldn’t figure out how it was done!

Maybe if you double loop the buttons it would pull the train higher and hide it a little more. I would try that and see. On the bright side unless you are getting pictures of the back of your dress you probably won’t even see it in photos.
