Is this normal for hair trials?

Meghan, on May 14, 2021 at 11:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hello! I’ve had two hair trials done by two different hair stylist and had each of them not complete the wedding day look. For example, neither of them used product in my hair. So I left both appointments with my hair frizzy (have natural curls and went to each appointment with nothing in it). Is this normal? I did makeup trials and left knowing what I’d look like day of, but not getting that feeling with my hair.

I think that’s common practice with hair trials. To get a full complete look I think it takes a ton of product, Bobby pins etc so they do the look but not 100% complete.

Agreed with PP. You don't get the full look at your trial - my stylist told me there will be a lot more bobby pins and I plan to come with my curly hair straightened from my rehearsal dinner the night before so that it's less frizzy. BUT definitely find someone who can work with your hair type. Not all stylists don't know how to tame frizzy, curly hair well and it sounds like the ones you went to didn't. There are stylists out there who specialize in curly hair so I would try to find one of those.

I don’t think that’s normal. I have naturally curly hair too. The lady told me to not have any product in my hair too. She put her products & bobby-pins in so I knew how it would look.

I think it's pretty normal, I specifically asked for my hairstylist to do things exactly the way he would for the wedding, because I wanted to see how it would hold (my hair is baby fine and slick, and so doesn't stay in place). If you're going to have another trial, maybe tell them you'd like to see how it holds up?

I don’t think that’s normal. I had so many Bobby pins and my hair held all day.
I would reach out and explain your concerns, see what they say. They want to know what they did wrong

Mine asked me before she started. She said that she usually doesn't put hairspray and too many pins during the trial,, so I can take it out easily before I go home to see the FH. But if I didn't care if he saw, she will put all the products on, like she would on the wedding day.

I don't think there's a set answer for this. every salon / stylist is different.

Nope, completely normal. I was worried after my trial because my hair literally fell apart within a few hours and that was not the case on my wedding day.

I had that experience. My hair was mostly done on the side with my hair pulled back with a clip, but the curls weren't as tight on the other side and she said they would be day of. I've gone to my stylist for over 10 years and I know she will do it right the day of, but it was definitely a use your imagination moment. I had no idea at the time that was how it would be, but actually reading through this thread made me feel a lot better.
