Is this redneck for a wedding?

My fiance and I had decided on doing a cookout for our wedding reception but his coworkers have him convinced that it is trashy and redneck to have a cookout. My fiance and I had decided on doing a cookout for our wedding reception but his coworkers have him convinced that it is trashy and redneck to have a cookout. (We're doing it at a state park in Georgia next April) We don't have a huge budget since we just had a baby in June but he was so excited about the cookout idea until he talked to his coworkers about it, now he acts like it's the most embarrassing thing ever. I wanted to decorate mason jars for the cups/party favors but I'm really worried about him being more embarrassed. Are these ideas too trashy even on a small budget?

I’m sorry you are going through this. I think it is very admirable if you guys to stick to your budget and not go overboard. This is a celebration of the live between you and your fiancé and what you have chosen sounds perfect. I hope you can encourage your fiancé and help him not to feel bad about your choice. It’s totally not redneck. If they don’t like it, don’t invite them

I just have to ask; by cookout, do you mean guests (friends/family) cooking for the reception? Or yourself and your fiancé? Just some clarifying questions.

Not at all trashy or redneck. That is SO disrespectful of that person to say that to you. I love the mason jar idea! Look up rustic wedding for ideas! It's going to beautiful! Congratulations on your baby, too!

If they not giving y’all catering money then don’t listen! I think it’s really cute and you can make it look so nice! I think the idea is unique and cute and I would love to attend a wedding with that style

I love the decor ideas and it’s YOUR wedding. Anyone who thinks your meal or your decorations or whatever are trashy or not fancy enough probably shouldn’t be there anyway! A wedding is to celebrate your love and union as a couple, not to impress people with fancy things out of your budget. My fiancé and I are doing a very simple meal style as well 💕 Best of luck

I don’t think it would be trashy if you hamburger hired a few ppl to serve, cook, and clean afterwards.

I think it is an awesome idea. Different but more importantly it's what you all want. Deep thought: if you start making provisions based off others you will start off wrong. It's your Special day and your budget. Don't let others dictate what you want.
    Happy planning!

If they think it’s so trashy then they might not want to come lol. Less people you don’t have to spend a meal on. Especially with the circumstance of having a new baby, they should consider the financial situation. It’ll be perfect especially since it will be more about the 2 of you which is what is supposed to be about.

I wanted to rent out a campground and have a big fun bbq weekend with friends and family his family would not have it I have multiple friends who have said they have gone to weddings like that and it's the most fun weddings they have ever been too. it's possible to make the day of a little bit nicer then a typical bbq with decor and some higher end bbq

A cook out is a great way to safe money. Its you guys day if you want a cook do it. Dont let other people tell you what they think. Do what you feel you can afford. I do.

Mason jars are beautiful. Search youtube for mason jar centerpieces. I dont think your ideas are trashy. Maybe ask your FH why he thinks it is trashy specifically.

You should celebrate your occasion however you want to. In fact, I have found that not sharing details with people is best. Opinions are like buttholes! 🤣 Do you!!!!!!

Sure, a wedding at a park can go both ways. It just depends on the decor and other items you use. It can turn out really cute and “casual-classy” or the opposite and become “casual-trashy”. So I would be careful of that when coming up with your plans. Also, if he’s concerned 1) search Pinterest for good samples to put his mind at ease and 2) don’t invite those coworkers Lol! 😉 I think it could be cute and fun if done correctly.

I’m sorry that you have to deal with that! It’s amazing how rude and judgmental people can be. I do not think it’s red neck at all and honestly I would love to go to a cookout wedding!! It sounds soo fun and I say go for it. People that don’t like it can just stay home if they’re going to be rude about it.

Definitely not! Show your fiancé some photos of the things you want to do and it might change how he is imagining it. You can call it an outdoor reception, include some rustic decorations, and it won’t be what people are imagining when you say cook out. A lot of the wedding venues I visited even stuff out of my price range have sliders as food options because as they said “People come to eat and drink not try new food.” So it definitely isn’t the food, it’s not the very in trend decorations, it’s the image that the coworkers have of people hanging out in jean shorts and baseball caps that makes them think redneck. So really, just include a dress code and you should be fine!
