Is two years too long to wait to get married after you get engaged?

I just got engaged on July 4th. My fiance and I at first both said 2 years would be great. But now in thinking I might want to do it sooner. The reason to wait so long was so everyone could save money. Please let me know what you ladies think. Thank you

I think 2 years is perfect. I wish we would've waited to save more money. But waiting two years to save money is responsible!

Ours will be just under two years (engaged Memorial Day 2016, wedding 5-19-18) due to finances (we are paying for everything ourselves) and travel (dad can't travel much so we are getting married the weekend after I *finally* graduate with my bachelors degree, one kick ass road trip from WA to MO with a stop here in WY for my folks).

ETA: curious...what did you mean "so everyone could save money"?

We waited 5 years after our engagement. We saved and saved for the wedding of our dreams. It was perfect.

Nope. We are just shy of a 2 year engagement and it has been wonderful. Extra time to save, first choice on vendors. I don't handle stress well, so being able to get little stuff done early and check things off of my list has been great.

Ours was a month shy of two years and at first I was bummed, because I was really excited and just wanted to get married. However, the long engagement was the best thing we could have done. It gave us plenty of time to save money to have the wedding we wanted without going into debt. We had our first pick of vendors, and I was able to spread out the planning enough that I never really got overwhelmed. There will be periods of time where it will feel so far away, but then you go back to normal life for a few months without doing much planning and then suddenly it's right around the corner. Trust me, the time flies.

Me personally don't think so. My FH and I waited two years at the time everyone was like that's to long. Now look it's here already and I'm glad we did wait. It gave us enough time to plan and really decide on what we want

Thank you everyone for getting my thoughts settled! I was only unsure because my cousin proposed to his girlfriend a few days after I got engaged, and now I just found out they are getting married in October. And my grandmother thought I was crazy to wait so long. But I'm glad im not the only one who wants to plan ahead. And by everyone saving, I mean my family and his and us

I'm having a two year engagement for that reason to save money! Plus my fiancé and I enjoyed a few months of just being engaged before starting to book and research vendors!

Ours is one month shy of being 2 years. WDGAF. We needed more time to save for the wedding we wanted and are completely fine with it.

I originally wanted a long engagement just to enjoy being engaged and not to rush anything. We actually waited a full year before we even picked a date or started doing any form of planning. I wanted an October wedding so we just went ahead and planned it for this year instead of waiting until next and everything has been coming together quite nicely. I say wait for the wedding of your dreams and enjoy the whole process of it all. Once you're married then that's it, you're just another married couple. You should be able to slow down and just enjoy every stage of this big moment!

We're getting married exactly 2 years to the day we got engaged. I'm getting antsy and wish we'd done a shorter engagement but it's nice to be able to relax on planning and have time to do research (plus you save more the earlier you book vendors in most cases). So if you want to comfortably throw a wedding you can afford, it's probably good to wait and save

DH jokingly proposed the night we met and I jokingly said yes. But, within a month or two, we knew! Exactly 1 year after we met, he proposed for real. Four months later we set a date and got married 3 months after that. Knew each other 19 mos. when we got married -- just couldn't wait any longer!
