Super October 2012

is your dress what you imagined it would be?

amee, on February 22, 2012 at 6:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Is the dress you chose what you imagined it would look like? I always thought I would wear the biggest, poofiest dress I could find, but when I went to try on dresses, the shape didn't look that great on me... so I went with an a-line dress that has a little bit of poof.

my dress should be here in about three months, and I don't think I'm regretting my choice as much as I'm super antsy for it to get here, and try it on again. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and just had to ask if anyone else had a similar situation?

Not at all. I thought I'd get a mermaid fit dress. I ended up with a ball gown.

The shape of the dress is what I was looking for since I started truly thinking about it, but I never thought that I wanted lace or all the embellishments on it, but I really love it and wouldn't change a thing.

My dress shape is exactly what I imagined, big and poofy cinderalla dress with a sweatheart neckline. It isn't the material or amount of detail I imagined though. Price was part of it, but also I just loved the look of this dress once I put it on. I think its pretty uncommon for you to end up with "the dress" you pictured all your life.

I really had no idea what I wanted! I was never a little girl that imagined my wedding day. I just knew I wanted something flattering that was slightly unique, and I got it! It was the second one I tried on, actually. Go figure. Smiley smile

    Nope.

First pic is what I really wanted...but couldn't find anywhere in the state of Colorado

Second pic is what I ended up with...very opposite of what I had ever imagined. I second guessed my decision many times...but on the wedding day, I ended up falling in love with it Smiley smile

No I always thought mine would be sleek and form fitting and then after trying those on for days my consultant brought out a dress with some serious poof (at least to me) and I fell in love!

I was NEVER getting married and even as a young girl never dreamed of my wedding. I am rather odd like that. So when I started looking I started with something more princessy and realized that is SO-O not me. I fell in love with a picture of my dress because of its organic/clean lines feel...

I always thought I would get married on a beach in a flowy sheath like the one Kate Hudson wore in You Me & Dupree. But I ended up getting a somewhat full A-Line.

I felt the same way while waiting for it to arrive. That darn Say Yes had me second guessing my choice. When my dress arrived, I quit worrying because I LOVED it!

I havent got mine yet but I know that what I thought I wanted is not going to be what ill get. I thought I wanted off white, straps, ruching and no beading. Turns out none of those work with my body, skin or taste. Who knew eh?

My dress is nothing like what I had imagined. This is my second marriage and when we first started planning the wedding was going to be small and simple. Then FH started giving ideas and bang we're having a bigish one. I thought I'd wear off white but my mom asked me to wear white and when I went dress shopping with her I put on a gown that had a lot going on and I fell in love. I have a lot of people ask why we're having such a big wedding and putting so much into it the only thing I can come up with is I know this is it. I want it to be beautiful and have all the family and friends we can afford come celebrate with us. I've wanted to be with my FH since I was 15 and now that we've been together for 4 years and I'm 27 it's finally going to happen. I don't think of this as a "second marriage" I think of it as "the marriage".

Nope! I started off with a red dress (which I've always wanted) and then I realized that I didn't feel like a bride. I went to a bridal shop's clearance sale and fell in love with a white dress!

Not at all! Since I started REALLY wedding planning and looking at dresses, I've always disliked the big poofy dresses that "wear you" as I like to put it. I had envisioned myself in a light, flowing, chiffon-type fabric that was comfortable and easy to wear. But I was having a really hard time, because every dress that I tried on with that description... looked awful on me. I either looked like I was pregnant, or the dress added 15 pounds to my look. I eventually found a dress that I thought was perfect! It was a light, flowing, casual dress - just like I pictured! It was short, too- super casual. Perfect for my casual wedding. Then... I got home... and I looked at the pictures of me in it. And I sent those pictures to family and friends. The responses I got were, "Were you looking for short?" "It's cute..." "Thats certainly casual". I realized - I didn't feel like a bride in that dress!

And I didn't want to walk down the aisle and have people see me, the bride, and think "Oh, she looks cute in that dress". NO! I want to look gorgeous, beautiful, slim, and - yes - a BRIDE. So I went to my local consignment shop, and the owner gave me this dress to try on that I was thinking, "ehh, it's really not my style!". But I tried it on. And hey, it fit. Like a glove! It had a long train, a beautiful waistline, beading designs, and I felt LIKE A BRIDE in it! I loved it! I must have stood there in the dress looking at myself all over for a good 15 minutes, trying to accept the fact that I really liked this dress… despite the fact that it was nothing like what I had envisioned!! The owner said I "glowed" in it. And to boot, she gave me $450 off the consignment price ($650) to meet my budget just because she "wanted me to have a dress!!"

So no. My dress is nothing like what I had envisioned - but I look and feel fantastic in it. And that's all that really matters Smiley smile
