Island elopement while on a cruise

Hello! Due to disagreements between myself and my family in regards to my wedding, FH and I are looking into eloping while on a cruise. We would want to get married on the shore (St Thomas or Puerto Rico being first choices since they wouldn’t technically be international weddings). I was wondering if anybody had experience with this? How did it go? If you didn’t get a wedding package through the cruise line, what venue did you get married at? Their packages just seems so expensive since it will just be the two of us.

Someone else on here was gonna do this and another ladt brought up the fact of what's a back up plan incase the ship can't land at the port you want to get married at for weather or other reasons. Not to add stress but might wanna consider that no matter where you get married.

Yes, that is definitely something to consider. We would be going in March when weather issues are minimal, but it’s still a possibility. I think the biggest problem we could run into is unexpected changes to times we are in the port, which has happened to us once or twice while on past cruises. I guess that would be a reason to do it through the cruise line so that they can anticipate these types of problems.
