Isn’t best to visit your venue prior reserving? Destination wedding

Jennifer, on March 15, 2022 at 2:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
I feel like my head is going to explode literally, so stressful to find a destination wedding venue. I’ve seen a ton of pictures of different resorts/venue but most of them don’t even reply. They take forever to answer an email. I don’t know if it’s best for me to actually go in person and visit these venues before actually choosing. Have anyone gone through this? Is it best to visit the venue to have a sense of how the place looks? Or if you have booked your venue via emails have it exceeded your expectations? Was it like in pictures?

Please help! I need advice! I’ve never gotten married before and I’ve never assisted a wedding either! 😩

Mine is destination wedding. I’m having to pay about 900 for hotels atm. It’s about 2.5 hours away from where I live. Honestly I’m glad I went up and checked it out. Since I’m having to pay a lot extra with vendors and hotels. I wanna see what I’m paying all this extra expensive for. But of course way the benefit with cost of how much it will be to go and visit one. But if your wanting less stress and better communications. See if you have nice areas that are in driving distance. Where you can still have the get away feel but not have plane ticket expense added on. Plus more chances to meet in person. Also find vendors that fit your needs. It took awhile with me but all my vendors are very good with responding back in a timely manner. 😊

Best of luck and don’t worry it’s also my first wedding too. Congratulations!! 😄

If you can't make it there physically, could you set up a virtual venue tour? We did that with a couple of ours that weren't available for a in person tour when we were on the island and it worked out great! We actually ended up booking one of them!

We had a destination wedding and it was not a question that we needed to see our venue in person first. And I'm so glad we did, because we would have not liked what we thought was our first choice from just photos.

We flew down (3 hr flight), toured one venue, grabbed lunch, toured another, signed a contract at the second and returned to the airport to fly back that same evening.

We did virtual tours since our work hours didn’t allow us to go visit. It worked out really well and they were SO accomodating!

Makes sense. I think my best bet is to actually go in person and check it out. Thank you

I haven’t thought of that. Maybe that’s also an option. Will def. Look into that and see if I can schedule virtual tours for the venues I have in mind. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I’m very big with aesthetics and really would prefer to see it in person as sometimes pictures doesn’t portray the venue exactly how it looks

Destination bride here! Due to COVID restrictions, we could not visit destination venues back in early 2021 when we were searching. We used the Venue Report and booked a castle, sight unseen. We relied heavily on photos and reviews we found online - our particular venue had lots of wedding reviews on TripAdvisor, and with the overwhelming number of positive remarks we felt comfortable booking it. We did, however, take a trip out in late summer once travel restrictions eased and got to see our venue, which helped a lot with respect to planning of decorations and how to configure the day, but it totally exceed our expectations when we visited - pictures did not do this venue justice. If a venue is not super responsive, that might be a sign of them not being an ideal venue - if you're unable to visit it before booking, I'd recommend booking a venue that is super attentive and willing to get on video calls with you to answer your questions. The other option, if your budget allows, is to hire a wedding planner to be your onsite eyes and ears.
