ISO Modern wedding Invite with no flowers or cursive

KDS, on November 9, 2015 at 10:14 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

FH is super picky and doesn't want flowers or cursive on the invite. This eliminates a lot of options. I want something with color and some flair. I plan to either purchase a template on Etsy and print with Vistaprint or wait until a 40% off coupon on WPD.

Our wedding colors are navy, mint, and pink with gold and cream accents. Any design suggestions or favorite Etsy shops?

What an odd request from your FH - no cursive. Did he never learn how to read it? Lol.

We ordered our invites from David's Bridal. They had a lot of more "modern" options and you can select the fonts you want.

If you're thinking about getting a template and printing them yourselves, take a look at

http://guide.weddingchicks.com/15_invitation_suites.html . Many of them are floral and/or cursive, but there are a couple that aren't. A lot of them do have like... two words of cursive though! Is that much a deal breaker? Ha. Seems hard!

ETA: I don't think you can change the fonts on those templates unfortunately, but you can change at least some colors on many of them. So don't get immediately discouraged by the lack of navy/mint/pink!

I was talking with one of my friends the other day about cursive on invites and she told me that a lot of people don't know how to read cursive now! I was flabbergasted. I just remember how important it was for us to learn it and now it's just falling by the wayside. Made me feel so very old. lol Anyway, I would try Zazzle. I've gotten all our paper goods from there and they've been great! (But my invites have cursive. lol)

It's pretty funny the things guys care about. I might veto him on the cursive. I'm fine with just our names or the banner being in cursive. His comment was, "who even uses cursive anymore?". He's in his late 30s, so he definitely grew up with it.

Here's a template of my invite. I guess it has cursive, but definitely modern-styled. There's plenty, and on most STD/Invites you can change the type of font.

Have you checked the designs on VistaPrint? Our invites were non-traditional too, we wanted them to have a map in the background (not a specific place, just some sort of world or North America map), and they had a cute design for it.

I have heard a lot of schools are not even teaching cursive anymore... I think that's so bazaar! I am definitely doing cursive on my invitations! Good luck... I'd probably go with template on etsy if you want something specific to you guys!

Art deco springs to mind- anything modern and industrial should get you there.

I personally love block print so I can understand not wanting to go with cursive- I Find the printed ones hard to read sometimes (like they are trying to hard)

Not sure about budgeting but you could always reach out to someone like http://papermoxie.com/ and see if they can work with you?

Here's a proof of our invite, only our names were in script but that easily could be changed.

I feel you--my FH is so super specific about what he likes and doesn't like in an invitation. My style is boho, vintage, floral and watercolors, and his is clean lines, simple, modern. I know you can change the font on Invitations by Dawn and other sites with that company, and I like how you can seach WPD and Minted by style. We are probably getting this one from Minted, which is probably too floral for your FH but mine liked the font and how the text is centered. I have seen a lot of similar designs without the flowers.

This is a letterpress invite without flowers or cursive from WPD that we liked. There are also a lot of Art Deco-inspired invitations out there now without cursive or flowers, but definitely with flair.

Here are 3 in navy from Vistaprint. With vista print you can change almost any text's font so you could easily take cursive and make it somewhere else. Personally I like a little cursive because it's elegant like a wedding.

The tree is a little floral but not truly "floral".

One is very modern, you could pick a different color.

The other has cursive detail, but is very simple as well.

There are a lot of simple ones on Vistaprint, just search Navy or mint and find one you like. Fonts are changeable.

When I ask for witnesses to sign the marriage certificate, I frequently hear, "I don't have a signature."

I guess maybe they didn't learn cursive?

There are plenty of options with no flowers or cursive font. I had neither.

Nancy T whaaaaaa? Did they grow up under a rock? How do you not have a signature? How do you sign for credit cards, driver's license etc? That is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard of!!

OP, like the others said there are plenty of modern, non-traditional invites out there. Just look at Vistapring, Zazzle, minted, wedding paper divas, etc. There are a lot and also, many let you even change the font.

    I don't understand that.
