iso Wine Drinkers - Help!!!

Alexa, on August 13, 2022 at 5:29 PM Posted in Planning 1 9

The bar service I am having at my October wedding is having me pick 3 wines to have alongside my beer/liquor choices. I’m not really familiar with a lot of wine, as I tend to stick to my favs! Here are the choices:

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot NoirChardonnay, Pinot GrigioWhite Zinfindel, Riesling, Moscato
What 3 would be best/accommodate different wine drinkers?

Were I in your shoes, I would go with a red, a white, and either the moscato or the riesling (which are both white, but sweeter. For white, I would probably go with the pinot grigio, since it's sort of "middle of the road" on sweetness. For red I would probably go merlot, because it's also (to the best of my knowledge, I don't drink reds, because I can taste the tannins) sort of middle of the road.

Another option would be to ask your VIPs their preferences, since everyone's preferences are different.

I’m mainly a red wine drinker but I love wine so take all this with a grain of salt!

Based on these options, I would recommend the Cabernet Sauvignon as your red. It’s the boldest choice for the red category and a very popular grape.
The Chardonnay is solid as your white, again super popular and most common as your white option.
I would use your third option in one of two ways depending on your crowd, if you have a lot of sweet wine drinkers, do the Riesling or moscato. Both are sweeter whites. White Zin is also sweet but rosé in color, so it’s pretty Smiley smile That will cover all your bases for color and sweetness level.
If your guests aren’t sweet drinkers, I would use the third choice for the Pinot Grigio. It’s drier and crisper than a Chardonnay. Especially if you have an oaky, buttery Chardonnay.
All of this is just based on general advice. Not taking into account the food you are serving or the time of year. Some would recommend more red options than white in the fall but totally up to you and your preferences!

I'd go Merlot for red, Pinot Grigio for white, and a Riesling for a sweeter taste.

Thanks for your input!! I will definitely make sure to do a red/white (good idea), and since I love Riesling that will be choice number three. ☺️

Ask your closest people what they prefer because they will be attending and will have different preferences than online strangers. Generally in a wine drinking crowd, you want one white and one red option.

I agree that you should go with Cabernet for your red. Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio are good choices for white. In my experience, red wine drinkers tend to also drink dry whites, but white wine drinkers won't drink reds. Rieslings are good if they're high quality, otherwise I think they're just disappointing. White Zinfandel or Moscato would be good choices if you have a lot people who like sweet wine. Otherwise, I'd go with Cabernet, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay.
