It's been six months, i want my wedding video.

Stephanie, on March 3, 2019 at 7:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Ok, so last year I made the decision to hire a videographer for our wedding, I paid the full amount of $1,000. I had asked the question when booking when could I expect my video (now I know it was on the lower end of typical videographer, and I am aware that you get what you pay for in most cases. ) and in an email the videographer had mentioned since my wedding was in October there is back log of 3-5 months. I was ok with this because it was the only way I could afford videography. The videographer was supposed to put together a highlight together for me so I could see something. He didn't. I followed up on January 9th, and got a somewhat annoyed response that he was mad I was asking for it after 3 months. So I have no highlight video, and I have no video, and I was promised I would get it in 5 months. Our wedding was October 13, for reference, but I was waiting until March 13, for it to be a solid 6 months. Should I wait until March 13th to follow up or should I be more firm in an email, and mention that I want my video or I will dispute the charge on my credit card? Now, I know it wasn't the most expensive package but it was still expensive. What should I do? How should I approach this?

I had boudoir photos done and was told I would have them in a month and 2 months later I didn’t have it. I followed up a bunch of times and eventually got my photos.

If youre still within the initial amount of time he gave you, I would wait. Once you’re passed that I would follow up and make sure you get your video!

I am not having a videographer, so I have no idea how long it actually takes to edit and what else goes into making the video.
First off do you have a signed contract?
I guess I would wait till March 15th just so you can say its been this many months and then if you have nothing by then I would contact them, bring up the contract agreement and then if they still have nothing then I would contact your bank.. hopefully calling your bank wouldn't post them off and something happens to your video

I think you have to wait the 5 month mark. Also see what your contract says.

Does your contract state a 6 month turn around time or is that just what he said in an email?

I'm a little confused, if your wedding was October 13th, then he has until the 13th of March to get it to you and still be in the 5 month window. I would just wait until the 5 month window has officially closed before inquiring again.

Not sure what your contract states but the way that it’s worded with a back log of 3-5 months sounds like an extra time on top of the normal.
thats a real cheap package, i would wait well over 6 months. my husband shoots a lot of video and edits on the side and it is a LOT of work much more work than a photographer. i would revisit your contract again. patience is difficult and just imagine if he has lots of other videos to sort through, while you’re excited he did give you a heads up.

Did you sign a contract that mentioned when you'd get it back?

He sent me an email in writing when I would get it back and I was supposed to get a highlight video, which I still haven’t gotten. 6 months is a very long time to wait for a wedding video, yes it was a cheap package. But I still paid for it, and to have them not be prompt is rather annoying. I paid promptly, they should give me what I paid for promptly, I’ve been more than patient nor have I harassed them, I just requested an update. I’m frustrated, and I don’t want to be annoying, but it’s an insane amount of time, plus wedding season will start back up again shortly. I’m going to wait until maybe even April to mention this. It should be almost done right?

March 13th will be 5 months, not 6. He’s still within his guaranteed time until then. I would expect him to take you to court if you threaten to dispute the credit card charge before the timeline you agreed upon is even over.

Im definitely not even to that point yet. I’m waiting until April before I get into that territory. He was kind of annoyed when I asked about it on the early side of when it’s be done. (I just wanted an update and I didn’t think that was unreasonable to ask, when he’d think it’d be done. )

Um nothing wrong with following up and checking in. Not a thing! You paid for it and it sounds like it’s been radio silence since the wedding. I would put your worrying away though as it sounds like he is still within his promised timeline. Check in with him the week the video is due. Hopefully he will be a little more cheerful then Smiley smile

Ok time for an update. It’s March 13th and ABSOLUTELY NO UPDATE on our video Smiley sad. I wasn’t necessarily going to harass the guy, but so far everything he’s promised, did not happen ESPECIALLY by the deadline that he sent me. He said we’d have a highlight video, we never got that. He said we’d have our video from 3-5 months. 5 months being the maximum time limit set for these. I’m going to contact him tomorrow and ask when he expects these done by, and it’s up to him to respond that he is either behind which I wouldn’t even care, or not. I’ve been patient, but so far this vendor has not delivered, and it’s disappointing.

Well hopefully after this next time you ask he will have something for you. I was reading another thing how a girl still hasn’t gotten her photos from the photographer she hired.

Update: we should have our video in two weeks. Not enough for me to be upset about it or demand like want my money back but I just want my video.

Update: videographer STILL hasn’t given us our video. I contacted him yesterday on the day he would have it done by and still nothing. I had mentioned the timeframe I was quoted and the price I paid. Im waiting for another update but I had to pay him in full before the event and he can’t even get his act together to get me my video that was paid for

You might have to take him to small claims court. He's missing every deadline he gives you.
