It's National Sunscreen Day! Will you wear it on your big day?

Victorian Bride, on May 24, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 52
So, are you wearing sunscreen? I'm looking for the perfect sunscreen to wear with my strapless gown. Eventhough our wedding is in December, if the sun is out, I will burn. I'm looking for something that will prevent sunburn, but absorb into my skin. I don't want gooey sunscreen on my body with my gown, veil, and jewlery sticking to it. Nightmare!! I'm going to check out EltaMD. I also want something that doesn't smell like sunscreen. I want to smell bridal, not like I'm going to the pool. I'd love to hear what you are using and doing.

I personally won't use any. I don't burn and SPF causes flashback in photos so I will be skipping it. If I needed to use it I would look for a spray one. I don't think they feel as sticky or heavy as the lotion.

Thank you so much for the info. I've never had flashback with sunscreen, but I'd hate to on my wedding day. I do wear it daily, if going out, but my current one is not appropriate for my wedding. I'll definitely tell my photographers.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess I probably should toss some on before the reception. Though I guess I could only put it on my arms and chest since my face will be covered in makeup...

Following to see what other people say.

I’m probably not just because our wedding will be indoors. But my moisturizer has sunscreen in it and it doesn’t smell like it (although that is like one of my favorite smells)

I use supergoop or eltamd. I’ve never found a liquid sunscreen that doesn’t have a sunscreen smell but the supergoop powder sunscreen in a brush doesn’t have a smell!

I know. It seems to be an undiscussed topic. I know I have to wear it. I'll be testing different ones throughout the summer.

I won’t need it. The sun will be down before our ceremony even starts. Yay November weddings...

Oh and I recommend checking for mineral-based sunscreens. Make sure you protect your skin with sunscreen that won’t do additional harm to your body. My favorite right now is Thinksport.

I hadn't thought about this yet. I was more worried about bug spray. I'm a mosquito magnet and our wedding is outdoors. I bought some bug repellent bracelets to try. I will wear it around my ankle. I had also never heard of flashback, so I would be sure to research and find a lotion that doesn't cause that in photos. Most people talk about it happening with foundation that has SPF in it. I will let you know if I try anything new that might work!

I’ve been using Supergoop and I’m a big fan! It goes on clear (which is a huge plus for me as a woman of color - a lot of sunscreens tend to make me look gray) and it doesn’t make me feel sticky or anything afterwards!

Thankfully I probably won't burn in October in New England but I am very very prone to it.
Mineral sunscreen can be good, doesn't smell as bad, but you will need to test it out and test it with your make up as mineral sunscreen doesn't really absorb and can leave a layer all over your skin and clothes.
I do find the Alba brand the least smelly, Kiss My Face sport has a coconut smell nearly everyone I know loves, overall I don't think there's a way to avoid the smell unless you only do make up based sunscreen, which won't be a high SPF if you wanted a higher one.

I swear by green goddess sunscreens. I’ve got a sunscreen allergy so anything that’s not a mineral block gives me hives and swelling. Green goddess is zinc based but actually rubs in (with a bit of effort).

I wear sunscreen everyday and everyone should! Even if you don’t “burn” it is highly recommend to wear sunscreen always to prevent sun and skin damage! I use a super cheap sunscreen from Trader Joe’s and I love it! It isn’t greasy and they have a moisturizer for your face too.

Thank you, Kelly. I'll check out the powder. Think that's what I'll buy. A mineral powder sunscreen.

Yes, for you bug spray and sun screen is important. Thankfully shouldn't be too many bugs in December. Mosquitoes hate the smell of real lavender. If you can somehow but your dress with fresh lavender sachets while it's in the bag, you maybe ok. Just a thought. For my body, think I'm going to use a body tone mineral powder sun screen.
