I have Nexplanon which is an implant that goes in your arm. It was great the first couple years but it definitely messes with the regularity of my periods now (some end after a normal cycle length for me, while other months I have spotting for 2 weeks after my period ends). I get migraines so I had to select a non-estrogen IUD.

I LOVE mirena. It's the 5 year hormone IUD. I've had it for a few years now (Nexplanon before that) and have had no issues. No weight gain, no acne, no mood swings. Life. Is. Good.

Talk with your doctor about your birth control options and what's best for you. In the end, you can always switch methods.
