I've lost a lot of weight dress alterations

A.L.S., on January 23, 2017 at 9:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hey everyone , so since purchasing my dress I've lost 20 lbs . I'm still losing and the wedding isn't until September . My dress has a ton of beading and a seamstress told me going more than 2 sizes down was impossible.

I purchased my dress at davids bridal and I was not intending on using their alterations department. Now I'm contemplating using them so that if they can't make it small enough maybe they will exchange it for a smaller size . When buying my dress I told them over and over again that I was in the process of losing weight . The consultant advised me over and over again that I needed to order it in my current size . Has anyone been through anything similar ?

Keep track of your measurements. Dress sizing can be difficult but generally 2 inches down is one dress size. If you're concerned with it ask them in advance if they are able to exchange for a different size. I would try it on now and if you're a size down now I'd go in and ask about it. I was in the same boat and had to hold my weight for a month because I didn't want to keep doing alterations lol

I lost two dress sizes and David's gave me a new dress in my size. Then all I needed was bustling.

Your consultant was right that you needed to order in your current size. Why? Because so many brides have the best intentions of losing weight and don't. Looks like you'll have to have your alterations done at DB so an exchange can happen. If you intend to continue to lose weight, remember that you'll need to stop the weight lose once alterations are finished. So, you might want to stop the weight loss in July or so and get final alterations done.

Hi OP, same thing happened to me. I ordered from Davids as well and was told I can do a size exchange, 3 months before my wedding. I plan on using their alterations department so I don't know what your seamstress has for a time requirement, but that is my plan! Best of luck!

Is it possible for you to exchange the dress you have for a smaller size or maybe even order a smaller size?

I would suggest waiting until you are 90 days out. I don't think 20 lbs is 2 dress sizes. Additionally, you do not know how many inches your body has changed.

I have not lost two dress sizes but previously To getting pregnant I lost 80 lbs in a year and a half . I'm on track to do the same so I will for sure be losing 40 lbs by September . I've lost 2 inches already .

First, you already looked gorgeous in your dress but congrats on the weight loss!

Echoing what PPs have said, ten years ago I lost 40 lbs over the course of about a year. I'm tall and I gain and lose weight very evenly and because a little weight came off from basically everywhere on my body, those 40lbs only equaled one dress size for me.

Don't panic now. Depending on how you're losing weight, it may only be one or two sizes (which is still a big deal, as is any step you make towards improving health).

And I think you out guys are right I'm panicking . Maybe it won't be such a huge loss in the top area

I just purchased a dress at David's and they said I am able to exchange my same dress for a different size or color, but not a different dress (which is fine with me I love my dress!) Maybe your situation is the same and you can exchange sizes. I would call David's and check!

I have this same dress and they exchanged mine and ordered me a smaller one (I went from a 22 to an 18).
