Ivory Bride... now what to do with the Groom. Urgh!

Jennifer, on August 12, 2015 at 5:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I found myself purchasing an ivory dress and now I'm completely lost on what would be the most chic choice for my groom and groomsmen. My colors are blush pink, champagne, charcoal and navy so black is not an option. Personally, I find ivory shirts unflattering on men so I'm really struggling here. I also prefer a suit vs a tux. Any style advice you ladies can provide is truly appreciated!

You could do light or dark gray suits

You could do any shade of gray or navy suits. If you're concerned about having a white men's shirt with an ivory dress, don't be. I totally agree that ivory shirts are unflattering and strange. Focus more on complimenting rather than matching.

My colors are similar, I have a champagne dress with ivory lace overlay, girls are wearing blush, guys are in navy tuxes with navy vests. GM have blush tie, Father navy tie and FH will have a champagne tie.

Edit - guys will have white shirts, skip the vests and they are very close to a suit.

I have the same problem, my dress is ivory and the guys will be wearing dark gray suits and I can't decide if the ivory with dark gray and the vest looks bad! My FH will be wearing the dark gray suit with a metallic gray vest and tie and the tuxedo place said he should wear the ivory shirt to match my dress but I still am not sold on that idea! So I am following this to see other opinions!

Charcoal suits would look very nice. FH could have a champagne or ivory tie with the guys having blush ones

Gray tuxes or suits for sure!!! They will look great with your colors and are perfect for a spring wedding. I agree I don't like ivory shirts on men, they look like they are sweat-stained haha. My H had a white shirt and vest and my dress was ivory -- I don't have pro pics yet to show you but they looked fine together!

My DH wore a charcoal suit with a ivory shirt underneath. We didn't have vests. The GMs wore blush tie, while BMs wore blush =) our colors were ivory, blush and champagne

Our tux rental place has ivory shirts that are very close to white- you can almost not tell the difference. We went with ivory shirt, ivory tie (for groom, coral paisley tie for gm), and gray suit.

Did you ask your groom what he wants to wear?

How "ivory" is your dress? There are so many different shades of ivory and white. My dress was "ivory", but on the whiter end of the scale. My DH wore a grey tux, his shirt was an off-white, it looked white unless it was next to a very stark white, and was very close to the color of my dress. I really liked how it looked. I wouldn't have wanted him to be in a whiter shirt than me, because I wouldn't want it to clash with my dress. His bow tie and vest were ivory, the groomsmen had blue vests and ties and the dads had grey vests and ties. I would definitely recommend taking a sample of your dress fabric and comparing it to how it looks against different shirt color options.

Some really fantastic ideas here, thank you all so much! My fiancé has left everything to me and is open to anything I suggest so long as it's not a "monkey suit." His words. LOL

I was worried about the ivory dress and white vs ivory shirt. We had the guys try on both and, IMO, ivory looks weird to me and can look dirty. I really like a nice crisp white shirt for the suits. so, we did a crisp white, grey suits, and my ivory dress. And everything looked great!

I'm with annakay, ivory looks sweat-stained to me.

Here is a pic of my ivory dress next to his crisp white shirt and grey suit. My dress does not look "dirty" in comparison to his shirt (as some suit places may say will happen), it just looks ivory.

I hope this helps. Smiley smile

Oh and with the guys in blush? Check with your FH and get a feel for if any of the guys are going to feel uncomfortable weird wearing a pink. When I added blush to out color scheme, I promised my guy that I wouldn't make his guys wear pink. If I had done bouts, I would have done the cream my bouquet had, not the blush. But we went with pocket squares so it wasn't a problem. Smiley smile

Our guys wore ivory because my dress was 'Ivory over Mocha' and white would have made my dress look dirty. I thought they looked crisp and excellent.

This is so helpful! My dress is champagne with ivory overlay so i was thinking of doing ivory with champagne ties for all the guys, but they're doing gray tuxes and i dont know if i love the gray and champagne together.
