Ivory dress with white tuxedo shirt?

Anna, on May 20, 2015 at 10:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 19

Hello everyone!

When my fiancé and I were in Men's Wearhouse the other day, they mentioned that he needed to rent an ivory shirt if my dress is technically ivory so I don't end up looking yellowish. The problem is, my dress is not really THAT ivory, and the Men's Wearhouse shirt was VERY yellow.

Do you think we would be okay, or should we just go with the ivory? My dress is the Maggie Sottero Blakely for context! Attached is a picture that shows what might happen.

I honestly think it would be weirder to have him in a yellow shirt than the contrasting color. I'm in the same boat, and we choose white for him.

Didnt think about this until you brought it up, but I have to agree Anne, it would be weirder to see the groom in an ivory shirt...

FH is wearing a white shirt with an ivory vest and tie. I think if you go with white, it'll look fine!

My dress is Ivory, so we actually went with a light grey shirt for the FH. I think it looks pretty good, and it made him happy.

@ Chloe do u have any pics of what ur wedding dress looks like to your husbands white shirt. I'm in the same dilemma I ended up going with an ivory shirt. But I did think that ivory looked a litthe yellow.

That Maggie dress is beautiful. I would just go with the white if it was me. I don't think it's that serious...

I'm in your same boat but I never considered putting FH in an Ivory shirt! I think that's just odd.

This is one of those things they train the young person at the tux rental shop to say, but in reality, NO ONE will notice this at all.

My dress was ivory so we went with an ivory shirt. I actually like the way it looks in my photos. Of course I don't have a white one to compare it to so it's possible that would have been okay to.

Our tux shop recommended having ivory shirts because my gown is ivory, even though it's not THAT ivory. That being said, Men's Wearhouse's ivory shirts are like yellow, you can get more subtle ivory out there.

Honestly you can barely notice the color in the Men's wearhouse Ivory shirt. My DH had ivory and I had a almost white ivory dress and it looked good together. His shirt didn't look ivory at all.

I don't think you can tell at all. My dress is ivory and my FH's shirt is white.

I have the same problem although my dress is more champagne and ivory and the place where I got my dress was able to give me a color swatch and it actually matches the mens wearhouse ivory shirts perfectly. I would ask for a color swatch and see how you like it with the swatch and the white shirt.

My dress was ivory also. The man at the tux boutique we went to said most people in that situation go with an ivory vest and white shirt. I never even checked if the ivories matched. Looking back on pictures they seem to.

ETA He said people rarely do an ivory shirt.

Mens Warehouse got really feisty with me because i didn't want an ivory shirt to match my ivory dress. Their ivory is so yellow i just couldn't do it. The guy was new and actually made me sign something saying i went against their recommendations.

Some ivories are more creamy than others tho aren't they? My benjamin roberts dress is Ivory, but really looks almost white. Whereas some i tried were obviously Ivory. I think we are going with Ivory shirt, because I worry my dress may yellows if FH wears a white one!
