Jack and Jill VS Bridal shower

theragirl, on August 31, 2011 at 10:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So I can't decide if I want a Jack and Jill party or a Bridal shower. I am leaning more towards the Jack and Jill so both sides of the families can meet and get to know each other before the wedding. What do you think?

Jack and Jill. I think it's a great idea, the wedding is supposed to be about both of you. Particularly a good idea if your families/friends need an opportunity to meet. =)

Definitely jack and jill. Mine was a regular bridal shower, but I definitely would have liked if my FH were there with me. I've been to a jack and jill one and it was a lot of fun Smiley smile

I had a Jack and Jill and it was super fun! I have lived with my FH for years in our own house, so there aren't many typical wedding gifts that I needed. The money raised at the Jack and Jill paid for my honeymoon! Way better than a toaster Smiley smile

I haven't been to a bridal shower in a long time, we've always had Couple' showers (jack & Jill) in my entourage, and it's always been fun and I like the fact that the groom get's to be showered to, too many people focus on just the bride, bridal this, bridal that... I love Jack & Jill better, it's his wedding too.

What is a Jack & Jill? Is it just a less girly shower?

It's a shower for both the bride and the groom (a couple' shower) and it's not only women there, you can invite both sexes and have mad fun (that's my definition of it)

LMAO, when I saw your post, I thought you meant "Victoria's Secret" instead of "vs." I was wondering...what's he getting from Victoria's Secret? LOL.

I'm not all that comfortable being the center of attention, and an event that is specifically for gift giving makes me even more uncomfortable. So if there's going to be a spotlight, I'd prefer to have someone to share (read: deflect) it. Smiley smile

I've been to both types, and both were fun, but my own shower was girls only... for me, I really liked it because it was fun to just hang out with the girls. Plus, I know my husband would have been really bored during the gifts, and would have thought the games were lame, and it probably would have gotten on my nerves... lol

EDIT: And regarding both sides of the family getting to know each other, there were ladies from my husband's side at the shower too Smiley smile

Yeah I think I am actually leaning more towards the bridal shower. The jack and jill seems too much work, too many things to decide, do you charge, don't you charge, what games are appropriate, what ones are not, do you have a dj, don't you have a dj, yadda yadda yadda. I think this is one area I don't want to have to think about!

I had a wedding shower and invited only ladies but i also wanted my dad, my FH's dad, and my FH there. The important thing to remember is that there is no wrong or right way to do anything when it comes to weddings, and you can do anything you want! I loved our shower because it kept with tradition and had a nice twist by having my FH and both of our dad's there. I have been to a couple of jack and jill's and although I had a blast I feel that it's a mini wedding with cheaper food and a raffle. It's not what I wanted but that doesnt mean it's not what's right for you!! Also, if you think a jack and Jill will get you more $$ for the wedding than having a bridal shower for you and a stag party for him, it's not true! My FH's stag brought in more $$ than one of my friends jack and Jill's (and, we were able to get our china set, coffee maker etc. etc.).
