Hey ladies,
I was just on another wedding site and I noticed there was a discussion regarding a “wedding fundraiser” or a pre wedding event similar to jack and Jill where the sole purpose is to raise money for the up coming wedding. The views on that board seemed to be pretty torn. Many people felt it was tacky to call it such, tacky to advertise it as such and just generally in bad taste. Other argued that it’s what a Jack and Jill is anyway, so why get all bent out of shape. If you’re okay with a jack and Jill you can’t complain about a wedding fundraiser.
I dunno, I was in the “tacky” party, but I also don’t love jack and Jill’s either. They’re just not super common where I’m from and they’re seen as money grabbing so I might be biased. I had a shower, but a few of my friends have done a shower AND a jack and Jill. How do you ladies feel about this? Yay or nay?

I had to Google what a Jack and Jill is...I am in the tacky camp...for both of these. I would not attend one nor would I throw one. I am assuming, or hopefully assuming, that the wedding fundraiser would be the guests gift to the couple or is it in addition?

Absolutely not the gift for the couple. Any couple who is rude enough to expect a fundraiser will want another physical gift or two, maybe more if there is more than one shower.

I could never to anything like this - how completely embarrassing to ask others to fund your wedding! I would also never attend one of these. I am surprised there are people that think this is okay?

I’m originally from NY and I had never heard of a Jack & Jill until I moved to Massachusetts 9 years ago. At first I couldn’t believe people would have a bridal shower AND a jack & jill! I thought that was a lot to ask if people. I quickly learned you are supposed to have one or the other. They are completely the norm up here in Massachusetts & in CT. So much so, when I got engaged almost every single person I know asked when our Jack & Jill was. So we decided that we are not having a bridal shower and we are having a Jack & Jill instead.
