Jack 'n' Jill (stag 'n' Doe) Party!!

Mrs.Rebeiro, on October 3, 2013 at 1:19 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 35

In the midst of all this wedding planning I have decided we are having a jack n jill party!

For you fellow brides and grooms that are not aware of this type of party here is a previous discussion that basically maps it out for you..

https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/calling-all-413-brides-jack-jill-party/a249254b72b94e14.html

Now for my questions -------

1) My wedding is April 19th - do you think March 15th is too close to the wedding to have this party?

If I were to do it then it would be a St. Patricks day theme

If we do it earlier I would be thinking sometime in Feb and not sure of the theme

2) For ticket pricing here is what I am considering - $20 a person or $35 a couple

If allowing kids they would be $10 for 10-18yrs and under 10 would be free

What are your thoughts on the timing and theme as well as ticket pricing?

I do know some will think its tacky but whether or not you think it is that is NOT what I am looking for. Thanks all!!

I have literally never heard of this type of party until I started on wedding forums. I don't get it.

They can ask for further information on it if they'd like, that kind of also gives them more information to make an educated decision...

    I wouldn't do 20$ a person... 10-15 might be fair... I don't even spend 20 when I go to the bar.

March 15th is a month before. I don't think that's too close. St. Patrick's theme sounds cute.

Depending how much you plan on partying, do you really want kids to be there? Price sounds reasonable, but I would leave it open to whoever wants to go so they don't feel obligated to have to spend the money.

We're considering doing something similar but calling it a "Pre Vow Renewal Couples Getaway" (still working on the name. lol) and doing an overnight trip somewhere like the Mohegan Sun or MGM Foxwoods. A few couples will all go and we'll hang out as a group for lunch, and then that night the gals and guys separate and do their own thing and then the next morning hang as a group for breakfast and then head home. Still working out the details but I get the gist of what you're talking about Smiley smile

I think that the month before might be too close. I personally would do it in February. You will have a lot of last minute things happening in the month prior to your wedding. Not to mention other parties (bachelorette, bachelor, maybe bridal shower?)

I think your ticket pricing sounds good, especially if there is a 50/50 raffle

Would "love" or a red theme be dumb for February? I am terrible with thinking of themes

If I were too do it in Feb I was thinking something valentines day like or maybe even luau style. They will definitely be tickets sold or pay at the door as this is meant to be a fundraiser.

There will be raffles (including chinese, and 50/50), Food, and booze will be provided (generally a keg or 2) as well as cash bar for other beverages

This is customary to all that I have been too and ticket pricing varies. I have been to some where its $25 a person flat or other that allow you to buy in 2's and they are cheaper

Whatever is customary in your area... In my area we wouldn't dare do something like this so I have no clue. Like I said for 20$ I'd probably skip... I don't spend that much at the bar and if its a cash bar there's really nothing I'm getting from it. But like I said I don't know how this goes. Also keep in mine your guests... Unemployed.. Laid off...??? Pay cuts... ? How many have undergone that and how much can they afford if they did? Things like this may have gone off without a hitch before the economy crashed... But now how will it affect the plans?

This sounds like fun, even though it's a canadian thing I would totally love to do a more basic idea of this, a little less intense version lol

St. Patrick theme sounds fun, but I wouldn't know anything about ticket pricing because I'm not accustom to the event. If this was in lieu of your shower, I would think $20 isn't terrible.

The point is to recover wedding costs or pay things off that may not be due till that day...

This is also a party that can be in lieu of the shower or in addition too. It is an open party for anyone who choses to buy a ticket - not just the people invited to the wedding. I was looking at it in a point of you get dinner, dancing, and free beer for the ticket price (not too bad I think considering for me and DH to go out to eat it is around $50 or better with no alcohol)

I'm not so much worried about the recoup of cash... I want it more as a celebration but it definitely needs to pay for itself

This is me being 100% honest here.

1 - I know this is typical in Canada, didn't know it was customary in the states

2 - If I had received this, my first reaction would be, "WHAT?! Are you kidding me?"

3 - But then, I would have a few mins to recollect my thoughts and think, "Ok, if she had a shower, I would have spent X anyway, so instead of a physical gift, these guys are getting cash." Fine

4 - Text you and say I'm coming!

I mean - what's the difference? Instead of a bath towels, you'll get cash. And I get to drink. I can't remember the last bridal shower that had alcohol. UUGGHHH!!!

I love Jack and Jills, they are so fun. I think you should do it February as well, you'll have enough to think about the month before your wedding. I personally would pay $20 for a night out and would love a luau theme!
