Jam wedding favor- help!

Ashlee, on July 24, 2014 at 3:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

Where can I order jam favors for a reasonable price? I need 225 to 250 and etsy has them but they are so expensive!

    Maybe a wholesaler?

What is your ideal price? You might find a farmers market in your area and see if one of the vendors would do your order for you at a good price.

I'm not sure where to order but I remember you are from NJ. Why not try one of the local farms? Maybe going directly and seeing what they could offer?

Otherwise, making jam isn't too hard. I used to make raspberry jam and strawberry jam when I was little with my mom. I used to give to teachers for gifts.

Why don't you make it? It is sooooo easy and won't cost a lot, depending on how big the jar is.

You can't make them? They're cheap to can. It cost me like $1-$1.30 (or something close to that) each for 4oz jam jars, strawberries, sugar, pectin, fabric and labels. It took my mom and I 3 hours to make and can roughly 80 jars, and then another 2 hours or so of cutting the fabric and putting on the labels.

It's expensive to order because you're paying for the materials and someone elses time. I can't even imagine the cost of shipping on 250 4oz jars full of jam. Plus, some may get broken during the shipping process. Yikes!

May not be a tangible option for you since your date is approaching somewhat quickly...but have you considered making jam yourself? You won't be able to beat the price and I'm sure your guests will be impressed and appreciate the fact that it was home canned.

You could always ask friends or family to help. A jam-making party could turn into a fun and memorable pre-wedding event.

I didn't think of going some where local. I just talked to my mom and she said my aunts, aunt makes jam!! I'm going to talk to her to see if she would make it and I would do the labels and ribbon. Of course I'll pay her too so I'm sure she wouldn't have a problem doing it! I would try it but it's so close I can't afford mess ups lol and knowing me i would some how mess it up lol

Ashlee, it will take a few hours to make the jam. Even if the batch turned out horrible (which I doubt if your aunt's aunt knows whats she is doing) you have enough time to do an alternative. Besides that, the jam can be made now and sit in a cool place until the wedding.

Agree with making it, we are doing jam favors too (also with the 'Spread the Love' label), and it was really easy to make.

You can pay me, but it'll cost you lol. Shipping alone would probably be over $100.

Your wedding is a month after mine, you have time to make a practice batch or two.

If you don't feel comfortable making jam, look up an apple butter or a pumpkin butter recipe!

I would prefer jam Smiley smile However, to be honest, I would go with a common flavor such as strawberry. Most people like that, while special flavors like pumpkin butter might go undesired. I find jam in general pretty "fall'ish" so I wouldn't worry too much about picking out a fall flavor.

I wish I did not already have my favors, because I fell in love with your jam favors when you posted them a few weeks back, MrsMToBe. And now I see them again and am like... ahhhhhh how ADORABLE!

Look out towards Lancaster/Amish towns. I've stopped at some road side stands and they're have amazing butters and jams for very cheap. The best pumpkin butter that I've had was at Cherry Crest Farms in Ronks, PA. I would also try Kauffmann's.

LOL! Well I hope the women at the wedding will like them! The jam tastes SOOOOOOO good!

Ashlee, if you do make strawberry jam, be sure to add just a little sugar at a time and taste, taste, taste, stir, stir, stir! It's the secret to not getting overly sweet or burnt jam!

We made our own. It was super fun and easy, and a great bonding time. Made about 100 jars in 3 hours with my mom and my maid of honor. Smiley smile

Just get some bags of frozen fruit from the grocery store and order certo pectin on amazon.

Make sure to look up canning supplies..some items will make things a lot easier (like the thing that you grab the hot cans out of the water bath with). Smiley smile
