Jamaica Honeymoon- Butler?

Amanda, on January 16, 2019 at 11:23 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

We are getting married in June and plan to go somewhere in Jamaica. My question is a butler worth it? Besides all the cool things they do, I think I would only use it to bring us food and drinks on the beach or pool. Does the resort already do that? Or is that what the Butler is for?

Also, I am torn between Sandals and Secrets. Which one???

I think Sandals is overrated. Also the butler service is going to be extra.

What didnt you like about Sandals. What I have seen you have to get certain rooms with a butler, my question was is the butler services worth it or do staff bring you food and drinks to the beach and pool already?

For us the butler service was more than just bringing food and drinks. He filled our honeymoon Jacuzzi every night with bubbles, candles, flower petals, and champagne. He helped arrange our meals (and I have food allergies, so he assisted us with making sure staff knew what I couldn't eat). He helped us set up excursions, made sure we had whatever we needed in our rooms, and helped us upgrade our room.

We were at Paradisus in Punta Cana, and the butler service is part of their 'Royal Service' which allows you access to a private beach, pool, and several nicer restaurants. The resort was very crowded, but we never had a problem finding a place on the beach or a great spot by the pool using the Royal Service. I would see people that didn't have the Royal Service getting up very early in the morning to reserve a spot by the pool or beach, and the other beaches and pools didn't have the same beautiful chairs and umbrellas. Everything was nicer for the people that purchased the butler service, especially the restaurant reserved only for Royal Service customers. After having the butler experience, we would do it again in a heartbeat.

Just another perspective! We had no intention of using the butler service until we read reviews online for our resort. I've never been to Secrets or Sandals so I can't comment on them, but we enjoyed Paradisus.

I haven’t been to Jamaica but at every other Caribbean all-inclusive I’ve been to, they do have waiters that walk around the pool and beach to take drink orders. So just for that specifically it wouldn’t be worth it. But like someone said above, sounds like they do lots of other cool stuff!

Hi Amanda! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

Regarding the butler, it's really up to you! Smiley heart The others gave some good feedback here. There are normal resort wait-staff throughout, however a butler would be an additional, personal server and special service for you and your fiance(e) during your stay.

I have heard great things here in our Community about both Sandals and Secrets. What are you looking for in your honeymoon experience?

We have some prior discussions here where you can read other's reviews on Sandals vs. Secrets resorts in the comments that might help you decide, too:

I agree, Sandals is a bit overrated to me. I like the smaller resorts.

I didn't have a great experience with the food at Secrets, but I did love the Wild Orchid Resort there. The location is absolutely stunning and it's a smaller/quieter resort. I'm a vegetarian and they seemed to be out of the only vegetarian option at every meal. I may have just had bad luck as I've read lots of good reviews from vegetarians.

Also, we didn't get a the butler service as we like a lot of quiet time and want to disconnect from the world as much as possible on our vacation. The thought of someone coming into our room and cook us a meal (while nice), just seemed to invasive for us. We wanted quality alone time. If we had breakfast delivered, we didn't want to be dresses while we ate it, haha! If you're staying at an all-inclusive and don't mind walking to the restaurants for a good meal, I don't think the butler service is necessary. Also, it's my understanding that you have to tip them quite a bit, even if tipping is included in your resort fee.

I’ve been to sandals not in Jamaica .. there are servers everywhere - we didn’t have a butler and I don’t think I would pay the extra $$ for it .. we did have a club level room where they did everything for us, we just had to make a phone call and they set up our meals and excursions and whatever else we needed

Not Sandals or Secrets, but we're staying at Couples Swept Away (there are other Couples resorts in Jamaica also) and I know that they already have a service that brings food to the room if you order & that brings you drinks on the beach. They don't even offer the butler there, but when we looked at Secrets & Sandals, we didn't really think it was worth the extra money. I'd rather stay an extra day or two. Like someone else said, I don't really think that I want someone to be around all the time, I'd really like to just get to relax with my new hubby!
