Jamaica or punta cana

Loved Melía in Punta Cana a couple years ago. Not SUPER top of the line, but very nice. Lots of bang for the buck! (My profile pic is actually from that trip) We ate at a restaurant with different cuisine each night! I’ve heard you can’t go wrong with Iberostar Resorts - if you’re looking to be spoiled rotten.

Went to a destination wedding in Montego Bay, JA a couple months ago. The hotel itself was gorgeous. The service, not quite so much. BUT the staff was struggling: We learned the hard way the potential long-lasting effects of a storm. There were basically brownouts throughout our trip. Which effected even the water working - since it’s powered by electricity. And it wasn’t just our hotel. The poor staff was experiencing this at home as well. It was the result of a hurricane from many months before.

I don’t want to mention the hotel since this situation was out of their control but do find out if any Caribbean destinations you are considering may be going through this. It would have never occurred to us. We were very uncomfortable for most of our trip but I can’t imagine the stress it caused my cousin (the bride). We all had a blast anyways, just because that’s how my family roles. Lol

If you’re stuck deciding, a cruise might also be worth looking into. Definitely a cost saver!

Thanks so much for the helpful feedback! We’ve been leaning more towards punta Cana but heard great things about Jamaica too! Have also heard good things about Iberostar Resorts! I may have to look into them!

Hi Brittany! I've been fortunate enough to have traveled to both of these islands and they both were so gorgeous!! It's hard for me to decide which is better, but either way you will love it!
