January 1st Wedding?

Kayla, on January 13, 2020 at 1:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
I really like the idea of a January 1st wedding, it's an easy date for hubs to remember and we could do a Christmasy or winter theme. The only thing I am worried about is, this is kind of national hang over day, and people may not show up because it might inconvenience them. Also, what about vendors working on the first?

Any thoughts?

We went to a new years eve wedding and partied till the ball dropped. But I think people would still attend a New years day wedding. You could make your wedding favor ibuprofen and water - haha.

I’d be more worried about my vendors being hung over lol. jk. I think a Jan 1 wedding would be super fun. I think guests would show up for sure especially if it’s on a Friday or Saturday (knowing they have a day off work to recover after 2 days of partying). Good luck!

I would definitely anticipate much lower availability of venues and vendors, and potentially "holiday" surcharges. Pretty much anything is available if you're willing to pay more, so I'd definitely check in with your preferred vendors and get a sense of their reaction to working January 1.

I think a January 1st wedding would be fun! There is the off chance that some guests may still be traveling from the holidays and would not be able to make it, but for the most part I think it would be fine. As far a vendors go, you may have a hard time depending on where you live. But, if you start looking and talking to them early enough, you should be fine.

I think if you gave guests enough notice, it would be fine. Especially because 1/1/22 is on a Saturday and a lot of people get New Years Day off. I'd send save the dates 10-11 months in advance.

What about a New Year’s eve wedding instead? That way the reception could be a party that goes until countdown. Plus, people are always looking for something to do on NYE anyway.

I agree, if 1/1 is on a weekend, more people are inclined to attend! I would also check out venues like hotel ballrooms, because hotels are open 24/7/365 (or 366 this year haha), with all kinds of events, they will have people working anyway, so staffing for an event may not be too complicated for them. Just send your save the dates a little earlier than normal and you should be fine! Smiley smile
