Dedicated March 2021

January, February or March wedding date

Alexandra, on May 13, 2019 at 2:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
To my Northeast Brides ☺️❄️☃️ I got engaged in New Years Day and right now I am going through the venue tour process and planning to have my wedding in 2021 after I finish grad school in December 2020. Now, I want a March wedding because although the weather and snow is unpredictable up here, I feel like there is a better chance to have nicer weather and we have family that will be traveling and flying in. But, my fiancé threw in the idea and is open to January or February wedding especially if it saves us money at the venue.

He said he doesn’t care because he just wants to marry me, but there is some caring in there and thought to what he said especially if it comes to the budget. So now I’m in a dilemma. Ahhhhh!

Do I consider what he said or stick with March?!

I live in CT and I personally would never do a January or February wedding because I would be terrified of it snowing enough that guests or vendors would to cancel/have trouble coming. It's just not something I would want to worry about on top of everything else and saving a little money wouldn't be worth it to me with how nervous I would be about it. I would do March for sure out of all those three months. Even in March it usually snows here but typically not to the same degree as Jan and Feb.

I live in PA and if we weren't able to get married on a Saturday afternoon in October, we were going to probably get married a Saturday night in February because of the expense (it was a lot less for the minimum). I was going to go with February, because I feel that the weather patterns are the most stable in February (then in January - March). The weather patterns in March could still be really unstable, and the weather could be hit or miss.

You should look at the past few years and when it snowed in each month. I live in New York too and I feel like the past few years - especially this past winter, it did not snow much in January or February, but March was crappy. It really is a hit or miss with climate change these days.

I live in NJ, so I completely agree with you. I feel like i would be even more stressed out worrying about if I'm going to get stuck or like you said if the vendors will get stuck. He said he just wants to marry me and doesn't care when we get married, so I think I'll be fine with a late-March date Smiley smile

I live in New Jersey, this year we got most of the snow in February (I think January just got some flurries, and March was nothing) but in the past couple years I recall March actually being the worst of the snow... in 2018 we got 5 blizzards, each with over a foot of snow, just in March.

Honestly it's a gamble during those 3 months no matter what haha, but based on recent trends I actually think January may be your safest bet.

Yeah, like who would have thought we would be dealing with 45 degree weather right now?!

I live in NJ, so I totally agree. I am looking at "off-peak" due to pricing wise and because I will be done with grad school Dec. 2020, so I don't want to stress about class and a wedding lol But i'm leaning towards late-March at this point, just hard to tell because the weather is hit or miss. I say when I book my date, go with the flow and just pray it will be fine!

I live in New Jersey too and it's so hard because we would have family flying in from out of state so that is my concern also. And we probably will be carrying the bulk of the bills for the wedding, while shopping for a house so "off-peak" season is our best bet. But the weather out here is hit or miss, and it's soooo hard to tell lol but i'm shooting for late-March so hopefully in 2021 Mother Nature will be nice and cooperate lol

I’m in NYC & I would pick late March for sure. Some days in late March are beautiful & snow on average is less likely in late March than Jan/Feb.

March is still considered low season, so there shouldn’t be a big difference in cost vs. Jan/Feb. It’s when you get into April that prices start to jump.

Also important point is that you’re finishing grad school Dec 2020. I think in this case Jan/Feb are too close to you graduating & probably being very busy. So I would prefer to have couple of months in between to get rested & organized for the wedding.

I live in NJ as well and January and February was out of the question. Our first choice was March but our venue only had April available. It still saved us money since April is considered off season.

Another Jersey vote for March. Definitely too unpredictable in January and February and more of a chance that loved ones and vendors would not be able to make it.

Yeah I'd also warn your friends and family about potential bad weather/flight delays, and maybe have them plan to fly in a little early (if the wedding is on Saturday maybe they could shoot for a Thursday night flight just in case Mother Nature is not on your side!)

There's a lot of questions for this. Do you have a large guest list? Does anyone have to travel from out of state or over an hour to your venue? If everyone and the venue are close geographically it makes getting there in bad weather more likely, but if you have anyone important flying in you shouldn't have a winter or spring wedding because its such a gamble. I'd say be sure to plan an inside wedding if you think everyone can make it even with weather. I live in Massachusetts and couldn't justify a winter wedding with guests coming from far away.

I'm a little further south in MD and we still get tons of snow in January and February. Yeah, it may rain in March, but you won't have to worry about 2' of snow on the ground. I would definitely consider a March wedding date.

We live in NY and in was going to do a winter wedding so we could have an of season date because it's less expensive. But I could never see myself happy with that. I wanted outdoors so we chose May instead. Idk where in the NE you are, but I think typically off season is until the last day of March. And if we're being honest, it's probably going to be snowing still 🤦🏽‍♀️ or super cold. But that's a suggestion if you wanna save some money.

I am in Massachusetts its rained every single day in April in March it snowed the first 2 weeks and rained everyday after that
I think you are better off saving the money for a January or February wedding.
