We are considering asking everyone to take a covid test before the wedding as well but my fiancé thinks thinks this is overkill. What precautions are you all taking?

I'm getting married the 22nd and have to say as a nurse, that is a huge hippa. violation. Tell anyone that is uncomfortable to join via electronic devices. Medical health confidentiality is piece of mind for millions. I personally feel like there's personal responsibility that each person take and you have enough to deal with.

There’s no HIPAA violation at all, and I say that as someone who is also in healthcare. People who are choosing to attend my wedding are also choosing to show me proof of their vaccination. If people are uncomfortable with my wedding requirements then they can respond ‘no’ on their RSVP card. We are in the middle of a public health crisis and it’s concerning to see the number of comments that frankly don’t give a crap. I’m trying to keep my guests as safe as possible at the wedding 🤷🏼‍♀️. Thankfully, not only do our guests understand that, but both our guests AND our vendors are thankful we’re putting appropriate measures in place. I almost had my videographer cancel on me yesterday but after I explained our covid protocol he felt much more comfortable.

Completely agree with you on all fronts. All of the weddings I've attended over the past 3 months have required both proof of vaccination and a negative test. As a guest, this makes me a lot more comfortable attending! If I were invited to a wedding right now that was allowing unvaccinated people, then I would decline.

I’m getting married Jan 16th. We’re requiring vaccine + booster or negative covid test. Originally it was just vaccine but with omicron we changed it to also include the booster. I’ve also had 5 ish ppl change their rsvp in the last day or so because of covid.

I am thinking of buying rapid tests for people before they enter. Did people have a problem paying for their own tests or did you provide some at the venue? Since testing is the only way to catch an active virus before the wedding I don't think of it as overkill but a necessity. I am just hoping I can get 100 tests for cheap! Also, I wonder if vendors are testing employees.....

Honestly, 97% of my guest list was vaccinated and this was right when delta was dying down in Los Angeles. The people who tested had zero complaints (at least to me) and didn’t mind paying for testing. There are still free testing sites and I did give them locations close to the wedding if they didn’t want to pay. Omicron is a dodger beast so I were having my wedding now I would most likely have everyone take a rapid test regardless of vaccination. If that were the case I would put this cost into my budget. Rapids are hard to come by but my husband and I collected binax tests every time we found them. We had a stockpile of tests and found that it ended up being cheaper to buy a binax now as opposed to ordering a rapid test service.

All of the people on this thread saying they aren't doing anything need to check out the thread of the bride who currently has two family members in the hospital cos their wedding created a mini Covid outbreak. I attended a funeral virtually for my healthy 43-year-old cousin who died of covid after contracting it for a second time. No way I would want anyone in my family to die to see my nuptials. It is responsible and reasonable to ask for testing before attending. I would test myself before going to someone's wedding.

Yes, I have a family friend who is a doctor and runs a clinic. I will ask about the mass purchases of the tests if we can't get a bunch free and suggest people bring proof too. I am lucky I have months to wait so I can hope omicron dies out and things stop getting canceled. January weddings are yikes! I am not requiring vaccination but I will be grouping families in the seating, doing outdoor seating, and testing. If people want to mask up they can but I am hoping we are beyond all of this by July!

I don't think you understand how HIPPA works.

Just to update my original post, as of yesterday we’ve decided to ask all guests to take a rapid test the day of the wedding. Everyone has been happy to comply and I think relieved that we’ve decided to ask. We are offering tests if people can’t find them but with 2 weeks notice, most people should be able to get ahold of one. It will make the day less stressful for everyone and it feels like the right thing to do at this point as our wedding is on the 16th.

I understand your concern. Sadly 2022 feels like a repeat of what us original 2020 couples faced. So best wishes with whatever you choose!

Lol - if you are a nurse and think this is HIPAA while spelling it HIPPA you need to go back to school and study again.

It’s the best way to go I think. Masks for the high risk or those that want to and everyone knows their chances of getting covid variant zeta or whatever it will be in July will be minimized. Fingers crossed and have an amazing wedding!

Here to update mine as well. As of yesterday we are requiring a negative covid test for all guests regardless of vaccination status. We purchased some rapid tests in bulk but are heavily messaging guests do it on their own before they travel and we will have the rapids on site if they forget or aren’t able to get an appointment.

Totally agree with all of this! (I’m also a molecular biologist and used to work in a vaccine lab.)

Think about considering a PCR instead. Rapids need higher viral loads to detect the virus and can miss a lot of cases due to this. PCRs can detect low levels and will give the most accurate results. They do take longer to get results but some places are quicker and have a 24 hour turnaround time.

We are requiring negative covid test but that’s all. I’m super stressed because some guest have back out already due to the number of cases. Also our pastor may not attend either of fear his flight may be canceled.

Ain’t this the truth!!! It’s so frustrating! I can’t even imagine being a 2020 bride dealing with this AGAIN!
