January Wedding?

Kayle, on April 21, 2022 at 12:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm trying to decide if its a good idea to have a wedding in January since we live in West Virginia. Just trying to get opinions on that, any advice would be very helpful!

Why not? Look for an indoor venue. I would just avoid holidays if possible, since your guests may have other plans.

I have been trying to find an inside venue but so far no luck! I was thinking if we get the tents outside then we could do standing heaters and maybe that would help with the cold?

If you can’t find an indoor venue I wouldn’t do a wedding in January, but I also prefer warm weather. I live in Maryland and it’s pretty cold in January.

Winter weddings can be tough in areas where there's a potential for snow, ice, and freezing temps. I'd avoid anything outside since getting things set up would be more difficult in the winter, and if one of the heaters is faulty or goes out then anyone in that area will freeze.

I would not want to attend an outdoor January wedding in West Virginia. FYI, we had an indoor ceremony in February and we were worried about the weather making the roads unsafe.

I’m in TN and we had an Indoor wedding. Complete with icky slushy winter weather by the end of the night.
We turned down a venue that was semi outside (3 of the 4 walls would have had to been tented) with heaters. We started on the earlier side. Reception was over by 9. Some of our older guests left early, before it got too late or dark.
I personally would stay away from tents and heaters. Otherwise go for it!

Indoor wedding: yes--any time works year round. I would not want to attend an outdoor wedding in January in WV

As a West Virginian, I think it would be quite nerve-wracking to have a January wedding, as the weather in January can make any type of travel (even within town) quite treacherous. I would NOT recommend any type of outdoor event.
