January Wedding

Shelly, on October 14, 2020 at 11:43 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

Our wedding will be in late January and the ceremony will be outside, so we expect it will be pretty chilly. Georgia weather is very unpredictable, but we want to be prepared in case it turns out to be on the chillier side.

My bridesmaids each picked out dresses, and I'm thinking of getting them pashmina shawls just to keep their arms warm during. As far as guests, we have on our website that we're expecting chilly weather and to dress accordingly.

Our ceremony will last maybe 35 min. max, and we want to make sure everyone is comfortable. Any ideas, or is the website info/warning enough? Should we provide blankets, and if so, what's the cheapest route to go with that? TIA!

I’m from New England where obviously you couldn’t host an outdoor wedding in January so not super familiar by “chilly” southern weather but I’ve seen the blanket idea and would appreciate it as a guest. Not sure where to buy in bulk but I’m sure a quick google search would help!

Usually January in the area is a high in the 50s, it can get to 60. Lows are in the 30s. Our ceremony will be around 3:30pm!

January in the area is around the 50s for the high, 30s for the low. I did look for blankets in bulk, but it was over the price we were willing to pay for them! We won't have a blanket per person, seeing as that is just excessive, but if we do blankets, maybe get enough to cover 2 people per?

A friend did tell m to take guys into consideration, because most men won't use the blanket. I think mostly women and children would use them if anyone does.

I would try to have outdoor heaters if possible. Blankets are a good idea also, but make sure they don't leave any fuzzies behind. I'd definitely try for outdoor heaters though.

Would it also be possible to shorten the ceremony? 35 minutes is a while in the cold, maybe shoot for closer to 20?

Our venue does offer outdoor heaters so we'll look into that! Thanks!

Unfortunately we can't, I'm half Filipino and we're incorporating a couple of wedding traditions. I would cut them out to shorten it, but my mom was already upset that we aren't having a church wedding and we only have 2 ceremony traditions.

Our wedding is in November and TN, and again it might snow it might be 80 degrees 😂 we have outdoor heaters, and I’m providing blankets for my guest as a favor as well. Walmart, Target, and Old Time pottery sells blankets around this time of year for 2.50 and we just went to all the Walmart’s and bought solid gray. Hope that helps you some!

Just curious...where in Georgia are you getting married at? Our wedding is January 23rd of 2021 in Savannah outside at Forsyth Park.

You share our pain with unpredictable weather too 😂 Our venue has outdoor heaters so that's a great backup in case we don't use blankets! My future MIL mentioned she would look out for blankets in the color I'm wanting, so that's nice! I'll check out Walmart and Target as well. Thanks!

We got engaged in Savannah! Our venue is in Commerce, so about 20-25 min from Athens, GA.

I would definitely look into getting heaters! Blankets could work, but that could get pricey and you don't want to make your guests share with other guests they might not know or be close with.

A little off topic, but oooh what ceremony traditions are you doing? I'm also Filipino and my church is only allowing 25 people inside for the ceremony. We have a large bridal party so that number will literally cover our parents, brothers, bridal party, priest, photographer, and videographer. So no sponsors and my mom was a little sad about that.
