Jello Shots At A Summer Wedding

SoonToBeMrsTanzer, on August 28, 2011 at 10:03 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

I decided that since we're having alcohol at our wedding, I wanted to try and make them look good, so I though I'd share a great website for these cute Jello shots that are really easy to make! We're using the ones that look like watermelons! (the corn cob-shaped one looks a little gross to me >_

They are cute, but please remember- this is a wedding, not a frat party. Jell-o shots are not appropriate...

This would be better for a crazy shower or bachelorette party...

Oh the horror. No, please don't do this! I've bartended for quite some time and there are PLENTY of ways to decorate drinks that's elegant. Leave it to your bartender. Don't start bringing out the jello shots.

We're using Jell-o shots at our wedding for the dollar dance (which to some might equal doubly tacky). Around here that is the norm, in both of our families the dollar dance is an expected tradition, and part of that tradition is receiving a shot of some kind. Most weddings around here use the jell-o shots because they are easy to prepare and have ready ahead of time for the dollar dance.

We're planning to use Jell-o's new flavors - strawberry daiquiri, pina colada, and margarita - for our jello shots.

Did you even look at the pictures? They are cute little watermelons, not Jell-o shots in a Dixie cup... lol!!

They look a little labor intensive, in my opinion... BUT I think they are super cute! Plus you don't have to make them super strong or anything Smiley smile

I've never heard the words "jello shot" and "wedding" in the same sentence before.

Two big problems I can think of:

    1. People "shooting" food coloring around your white (or light) dress.

    2. It's summer, it's hot, and it's already too easy for your guests to get dehydrated (read: drunk faster and more likely to get sick). I wouldn't stop people (who aren't already too drunk) from ordering a shot for themselves, but I wouldn't pass them out.

This website is too cute!!!! I love the watermellon & the hot chocolate!!

hahaha - I'm laughing at everyone's comments about the Jello Shots! One of the venues we were interested in (before we decided on a DW) the coordinator told us that in a previous wedding bride and groom were big drinkers. Their escort cards were shot glasses filled with a jello shot. That set the tone. At the end of the night the groom ended up swimming in a pond out back, the groomsmen all lost the shirts, bridesmaids had ripped dresses and the bride was passed out in the bathroom..... classy.

    @Kimi that made me LOL!

I am not a fan of this idea but to each her/his own. While I would happily do a jello shot at a cook out (I have more times than I can count) I would NOT do it at a wedding. But that's just me.

Hahaha when the coordinator told me the story I was speechless! She said in the 10+ years she has been a wedding coordinator at the venue she has never seen such a party. WOW lol

Nicole: If you're going to do jello shots - that website you found would be a perfect way to do it. It's cute! I love the bubblegum ones!

I think this is adorable.. and you should do it.. clearly if your thinking of putting this much into it it means a lot to you.. and good job at finding these. I dont drink and I'm very shy, we had a neighbourhood BBQ pool party a few years back and everyone thought I was a prude so I showed up with a huge platter of jello shots. They were a hit and everyone finally gave me a chance and saw that I was just shy not a snob. I think they are the perfect way to force people to smile and have some fun. Rules shmules who cares what your suppose to do or not suppose to do. Its YOUR wedding.. happy meals or lobster its your day done your way.

Adults only wedding I assume? Otherwise you could end up with a lot of trashed kids as thats one bit of alcohol kids will be leaping at. Jello shots are not my thing (love shots, hate jello) and I wouldn't do it for a wedding, but I guess if you really want to then the fun shaped mold does add a nice touch.

They're easy to make, and we will offer them in a way that they are not visible to the kids. One side of both my family and my fiance's family is filled with 'respectable drinkers' (the people that can drink without getting obnoxious), so we wanted to find a way to let them have fun too. We may also wait until the kids are gone before handing out the Jello shots as like an "after party" for us and our close friends from high school. I am traditional, but I always like to try new things. I respect the opinions of those who think this may not be a great idea, but I just want everyone to be relaxed, comfortable, and to have fun! Smiley smile

I don't think you can avoid the kids seeing them. Make some NA ones for kids if you do decide to do this, but I agree- food coloring and wedding dress are not a good combo.
