Has anyone opened a joint bank account yet? What's the best option?

My husband and I opened a joint checking account when we moved in together (prior to marriage) for shared expenses. We then turned that into our primary account after marriage. Luckily, we both used Wells Fargo even prior to getting together, so the choice was simple. Otherwise, I would think about the pros and cons of each other's banks, or another bank with branches nearby, that may work. There are also plenty of couples who keep their money completely separate. There's really no right or wrong answer for this one.

When we knew we were going to get engaged soon we opened a joint savings and checking account to start saving for the wedding. We will eventually use that for all joint bills and expenses. We use Capital One because he already had an account with them. It was super easy to set up and the interest for savings is a bit higher than traditional banks. I now have my own individual account with them as well. Just look around and see which has the best interest rates and if there is a minimum amount you need in the account.

Everyone is different.. my husband and I opened a joint account when we first moved in together, prior to getting married, so we could pay all our bills from that one account. We each have an account the other isn't on (that we've each had before we met) that we keep a little bit of money in but the majority of our money goes to a joint account. We consider our income as a whole to be joint. But every couple does things differently. Whatever works best for you! If you're considering joining accounts, look to see who's bank has more advantages and go with that. Or completely open a new account.
