Joint Dance?

FutureMrs2017, on April 6, 2017 at 3:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Is anyone doing/has anyone done a joint father/daughter mother/son dance? What song did you use? Neither one of us really enjoys being in the spotlight. Would this be a good idea?

Yeah - we are doing this for the same reason (not a fan of the spotlight). Plus I think guests appreciate not having to watch as many dances.

As for song, we are dancing to "In my Life" by The Beatles

I hope you dance is always a good one! Lots of my couples do this, surprisingly. Take pressure off of your parents as well. My dad was so nervous about the dance!

@Jennifer - what a great song for a joint dance! That's definitely going on the list of possibilities.

We are doing a joint dance to a song TBD. If I can combine our first dance and the parent dances into one song I will be thrilled

I think it's a great idea! Just pick a song you all like, it doesn't need to have special lyrics or meaning. -- also, when I saw the title of the post and thought this...

Kia9 - Great idea! You could start out as a first dance and bring parents in, maybe? Could be a mash-up of both songs or real quick transition so you don't have to dance both songs to completion.

This is what FH and I want to do!! My dad is SUPER nervous about being in front of everyone in the spotlight, while FMIL is totally fine with it, but we want to move things along faster and not make guests sit through so much "stuff".. we are having a hard time picking out a song though!

We may end up doing a joint dance. The song I've picked is "When You Need Me" by Bruce Springsteen

At my FSIL's wedding they invited other fathers/daughters and mothers/sons out onto the dance floor after the first forty five seconds or so, but they did them as two separate dances. FH and I have decided to go this route as well for similar reasons as you mention - not wanting to be in the spotlight and getting guests out onto the dance floor sooner.

I would love to combine first dance with father/daughter mother/son. I should ask our DJ!

We're combing the mother son and father daughter dances ( I'll dance w FIL as my dad passed and we're close, he's a great man and reminds me alot of my dad) we'll all likely dance to Days Like This by Van Morrison. :+)

We did a family dance because my husband's mom passed away so it started with me and my dad and then DH and his sister and dad joined in and then eventually my mom, brother and SIL too. We all danced in a circle at the end of the song and then I did the robot dance with my dad. It was a lot of fun.

We struggled with this one as well. Many great songs, but when you read the lyrics, there is a little lover vibe (gross). After seeing Harleybeachbride's post, I looked at the Van Morrison song, Days Like This (thanks girl) and we really like it. We also thought of using Elton John's "Believe", or something from the 60s when our parents were growing up, something with love, without the lover vibe when dancing with parents. :-)

This is what FH and I are doing, his sister did it as well.

We decided on Count on Me by Bruno Mars, but there are so many good suggestions on this thread!

We are doing this because I feel like at most weddings the formal dances drag out to long. We are doing "what a wonderful world"

We are doing it because my dad refused to do it unless there were more people on the dance floor but I'm thinking that I'll give my FH & his mom some time in the spotlight first because they are super close & I would love pictures of them being by themselves.
