Hi! My fiance and I would like to get married by a JOP but are having an impossible time finding someone we can call to do it. We've read the law but don't know how to actually find someone. Help!!!

Your county clerk's website should have links to people who can marry you. We are doing this before the big ceremony in Mexico and they have multiple resources for us listed with their contact information.

I found this which should have everything you need: http://www.theamm.org/marriage-license-office/pennsylvania?county=Bucks

The clerks office will have a list. And I believe the courthouse in doylestown marries couples on certain days.

I bet if you literally google bucks county justice of the peace you will find someone

Ditto to the above. Go to the office where you get the licenses and ask. They may even schedule it there. Also dont forget you can do a quaker license and marry yourselves! Thats what we are doing.. At one point Bucks county was notorious for being jerks about giving those out, but i think they have gotten better.

Also wanted to add, you can get a license in any county. We live in Lebanon, work in dauphin, are getting married in Perry, but will be getting our lisense from Lancaster, because they only charge $40, while all the other counties charge $50-70. Its also a nice excuse to grab lunch at my favorite restaurant, which is in Lancaster.

IWe want to be married by a JOP but we're having an actual wedding, we're just not religious. The biggest hurdle is that we actually live in Texas right now, so we can't really stop by to chat with someone. I haven't found a way without calling every single justice to figure out if they will willingly do a Saturday evening wedding.

First of all - yay Bucks County!

There are tons of non-religious officials in PA outside the JOP as well. I know Journeys of the Heart has lots of secular officiants. You can read their bios on the website: www.journeysoftheheart.org

I know that the courthouse in Doylestown has a listing of the townships and officers that will do weddings, however, it wouldn't list which days they'd offer them. So, you'd still have to call around. I remember seeing it when we got our marriage license a few months ago.

You could also have a friend get "ordained" and marry you as well in a non-religious service. My friend did that (keeping in mind, they were of two different religions, and they didn't want any religion in their service). Other than that - Jules had a great idea with the Journeys of the heart - there are lots of different organizations like that that are non-religious.

And as she said - yay Bucks County!

The original post is almost 10 years old. Here is a current list of non religious officiants:
