July 4th Michigan Wedding - 500 Guests?!

Rachna, on April 9, 2020 at 5:22 PM Posted in Michigan Planning 0 8

Hi,

As it seems to be the trending topic, I wanted to reach out and get anyone's thoughts on how they think July Weddings will pan out. I am scheduled for July 4th 2020 in Michigan. Our Stay at Home just got extended today through April.

I honestly feel like the hardest part is not knowing which way things are going to go. I just want an answer haha! I assume that if we do continue with July 4th, we will have to cut guests based on whatever the restrictions are. Our venue is also not telling us the available dates for postponing yet since they are still working on weddings before us.

Thoughts, anyone in a similar situation? Feel like this is something that only the people in the situation will truly understand. My heart goes out to all of you dealing with the same issues!

I’m July 17 in NY it’s absolutely killing me not knowing what to do and if the wedding will be allowed how many guest can we have ? I have no idea how we would even choose it just doesn’t seem appropriate or fair but we just don’t know and I know that’s the hardest part. I have had a lot of anxiety about it I’m hoping we’ll find out more very soon and we can make decisions. Best of luck to you!!

I’m also July 4th! We’re waiting until May 1st to decide to see if the government stay at home order will be extended or not. If it does extend, we’ll be postponing until next year. I’m staying hopeful for now but I don’t think it’s looking good. I would definitely cut your guest list back though if you are able to keep your date.

Hey, CIDY friend! ❤ I'm so happy for you, and it's good to "see" you. Congratulations!

I'm getting married the weekend after you. I had a phone call with my wedding planner last week, and she said everyone in the wedding industry is operating as if everything will be fine in July. So she said to keep planning because if things are back open, you don't want to be frantic trying to get everything finalized in June.
She also said that we should have a back-up date in mind just in case. We've been reaching out to all of our vendors and so far everyone is willing to work with us on moving our deposits to another date. Since we decided that we would postpone to 2021, our vendors are even more willing because they have more availability. Vendors are getting booked up through the rest of the year (even weekdays) because so many April and May brides had to reschedule.
I hope this helps. Message me if you want to talk more. Congrats, again!

I think it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to have 500 people together in July.
You should probably think about what you'll want to do if you can only invite 10 people (or 25, or 100, or 250). Would you still get married that day? Would it still be at the same place?

Even if your venue doesn't want to figure this out yet, it would be good if you can at least get a sense of whether you'll be able to reschedule with them. I'm guessing you plan to send out invitations at some point in the next 4-6 weeks, so you might be able to use that to put a little bit of pressure on them.

    Hi there!

I am also a fellow Michiganian. I believe that the wedding industry anticipates things being up in running by July, but I have no idea how they can make that assumption. Our Governor just extended the Stay Home Order until April 31st and I can imagine there will be another extension when that date approaches. I am slightly concerned about any weddings because they have restricted the amounts of guests for any function, and I unfortunately find it unlikely that any business will allow any guests over 50 ish people. Best of luck.

Hi! So nice to hear from you and congratulations! Thanks for the helpful advice Smiley smile While I do want to wait and see if July is a possibility, I feel like having a backup is a good idea with the number of guests we are planning for. Will look into it, thanks!

I'd say July is still uncertain for weddings, but I'd be highly doubtful of any event quite so big in the near future. I would be cautiously optimistic for a smaller event, but think you should definitely have a backup plan in place, either bumping your date or reducing your guest list significantly or both.
