July/ August weather in Austin, TX

priscilla , on January 9, 2012 at 11:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hello ladies! I am planning on getting married in Austin, TX around July or August and wanted to know as far as an evening wedding what i should expect for the weather? I'm orginally from Houston, but have heard different things from vendors but wanted to hear from other folks too. Not to mention it will be an outside wedding so any suggestions or advice?

thanks much!

It's HOT, hot and humid -- Everytime I've seen temps in the +110 range it's been in August. I live in Austin and I wouldn't subject myself to an outside wedding during either of those months (and August seems worse to me than July, but maybe it's because I'm so sick of the heat by then), but if you were to find a place where there's a chance of a breeze (like by the lake or out in the Hill Country) and kept it quick, it could work! Where abouts in Austin are you looking at? There are some beautiful venues with windows and you could pull the outside in?

Oh and if you're thinking it cools down at night, it doesn't. I remember this last August (which was particularly bad to be fair), the lows were in the mid to upper 80's, which is still pretty hot for the middle of the night.

You can look online, but in the summer, I think the temps peak right about 5-6PM.

HOT!! Also if there's a drought like last year all the grass will be dead and yellow and gross but if not there will be man eating mosquitoes.

Juliette's 100% right. The past few summers we didn't have too many days below 100. Honestly, I think an outdoor wedding here in August isn't a good idea. You and your guests are going to be terribly uncomfortable/hot/sweaty all day. If you have your heart set on an outdoor wedding, I'd push it to October at the earliest. September can still be pretty hot.

    Laguna Gloria is gorgeous!

HOT HOT HOT did I say HOT!

I'd suggestion a water station for your guest before the ceremony or mini water bottles that could be passed out with the programs.

I'm having a summer wedding and have turned my programs into fans.

Thanks ladies so much! you have definielty changed my mind for the better. I want ppl to have a good time and not be miserable. So what would you say about the mosiquitos during late setember early october. Do they get bad? and does it tend to rain more during that time?

I hesitate to say what's "normal" weather for us anymore. We had 90 days over 100 last summer, and I think the "official" average is 12. It was 75 on Saturday when average temps are in the 50's. We're in a drought, and my outdoor wedding last month had to move to a covered pavilion b/c of rain.

Just look at some weather almanacs and see what the average temps/rain is like - you can at least make some educated guesses, and know that you did your best in trying to find a good time. Weather is weather, and we can't control it. You could get lucky and have one of those glorious fall afternoons we love so much!

Generally speaking - we have less of a mosquito problem than the coast b/c it's less humid. There probably won't be a big problem w/ those in the fall, though. They seem to be more of a spring/summer issue when it's been raining.

Laguna Gloria is a beautiful venue and in fact my neighbor was their wedding planner until November. I can't imagine that they don't have a nice indoor option...seems like they do a BIG event there in June every year (my brain is not functioning right now), so they might have some suggestions for you, although the planner is new I'm

guessing. If you want me to ask my neighbor, just PM me!

I don't know your size/budget, but have you looked at The Oasis? They have panoramic windows overlooking the lake which is gorgeous even in a drought.

Because you're up so high above the water, even if you're outside, there's generally at least a little breeze.
