Jumping the broom!

5starz, on May 12, 2011 at 3:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

I have decided to incorporate this tradition into the ceremony but I am having the damnedest time finding a beautiful broom !

Is anyone else doing this and if so where did you find your broom?

You can probably find a broom at your local craft store and then DIY it or:

Around the time of the holidays... They usually sell the "cinnamon brooms"....

    http://www.amazon.com/Azure-Green-Cinnamon-Broom-12/dp/B000WS8YDK

If you order it now you can get al lthe cinnamon smell out of it... And you can decorate it youself.

I did this I had a family friend make it. She runs a party supply place. Look at local stores that rent out party stuff like baby shower chairs most of the time they can make them there or may know someplace that can. Good luck. Also check ebay.

I would suggest a relative's broom, and then clean it up. That way it will be special to you and it could become a hand down from generation to generation. You can decorate it to make it look nice.

I had to explain to my family some pagan/alternative spirituality wedding customs (which broom jumping is one of many) because they thought that incorporating "heathen" traditions meant slaughtering goats. I wonder wtf people get their ideas from. Anyway, it's a practice shared by many different cultures and it's cool to see people incorporating it into their own traditions. Smiley smile Here's some information if anyone is curious (or ticked that I brought up paganism.) We're having a non-religious ceremony but I've always found different religious wedding customs really interesting.

I also thought about encorporating this tradition as well but I might set against it b/c I'm not sure how I can do that since we will be having an outside wedding.

ShaTerra, I don't see any reason why you can't jump the broom outdoors.
