Anyone nervous about restrictions still being in place? I talked to my event planner last week and I guess I wasn’t as aware of ALL of the restrictions that are being placed on weddings in my state. I figured masks and 6 feet less at tables etc. but now they’re saying cocktail hour has to be seated.... We’re going to be outside in a tent. No passed hors d'oeuvres. Everyone has to remain seated the whole time unless bathroom. No dancing. I was aware of the no dancing restrictions in other states but didn’t realize my state is included in that. I’m unsure what to even do at this point. No cake cutting. No lawn games. I feel like I’m better off just getting eloped.

Hi DJ. I came on here specifically to connect with other brides in my situation. Sounds like we have very similar scenarios. I booked with Rosecliff in Newport in February 2020, weeks before Covid shutdowns began. We are scheduled for September 2021. I got up to speed just last night on all of the rules... staying seated. No passed hors d'oeuvres, no dancing, no long tables, etc. I will not have a wedding like the above, certainly not at this venue. I'm at a loss for what to do. Would love to keep eachother updated.

Absolutely! And I know what you mean! We’re here all of the stuff on the news, but they never go into detail until you talk to your venue coordinator. I actually did not hear anything about long tables. Has your venue mentioned anything about charging you more for postponing? All of my vendors and venue want to charge 1000+ to reschedule. It just really upsets me because I signed a contract specifically with all of those things in my contract saying that it was going to happen. I feel like they can’t fulfill their part of the contract yet I’m taking the hit for it? And another thing that amazes me is that all of these places are now allowed to have rapid testing. I saw another person mention on a different platform about rapid testing and why their guests can’t all be given a rapid test before entry that way they don’t have to sacrifice things like dancing cake cutting etc. we should definitely keep in touch because I do plan trying to take legal action if in the event my wedding gets destroyed by these rules. There are many other places that are allowed to remain 6 feet apart ie zoomba class and still be able to dance. I’m not too sure why they’re coming down so harshly on weddings

And yes We too bookedLike two weeks before this whole pandemic broke out. There are many brides that have signed their contracts during the pandemic. That is a situation where I can definitely see the venue wanting to charge because at that point they pretty much know what they’re getting into. However for people like us that had no way of knowing a massive pandemic was going to break out after we signed our contracts should not be held to these ridiculous rules that they’re just making up on the spot as far as charging 1000 bucks more.

We contacted our venue to get a feel for restrictions.. They're currently at 25% capacity, so if nothing changes (no further lockdowns/restrictions), we should still be good to go. We may need to cut our guest list, which is awkward (we've already sent out invites for the original date we postponed)... but we'll touch base with the venue in March to get a feel for the allowed seating capacity.

With vaccines rolling out, I don't anticipate it getting much worse? So, we're just going to plan as normal and hope for the best. lol

Rhody girls! It looks like our wonderful wedding industry members are doing everything can to help normalize the industry for us asap. After some protests and meetings with the commerce department, looks like some of our vendors are creating a guideline video to help others. Hopefully this will keep us on the route to a fairly normal second half of the year for weddings! https://whatsupnewp.com/2021/01/mock-wedding-to-be-held-at-oceancliff-will-be-used-as-a-training-video-to-help-the-wedding-and-event-industry-naviage-covid-19-guidelines/?fbclid=iwar0cx_hp3ogwiqfesc-d1pt-e6qx1d3-wwmjk25b4dxaxs0cz1zaf5jz3fk

I know! We actually just got off the phone with a person from Lt. Gov Dans office this morning and we got the update! I am so happy today! This is such great news . We really think this is going to happen! I am so excited and so happy for everyone right now! I know anything is possible but from what it sounds like they’re really going to make this happen for everyone!

This just made my entire day. I’m getting married in Rhode Island in August (after already postponing an entire year once) and am really hoping there will be some dancing allowed by then! I will happily supply masks or pay for rapid tests for my guests I just want to celebrate with them!

But the RI mock wedding didn’t have dancing... I threw in the towel. June is just too up in the air. For all of you further into the summer, you might be better off. Good luck to all.

I know but they’re hoping for it to be the first step to lightening restrictions. But I hear you. Everything is just so up in the air. Did you push out the wedding or did you just cancel it altogether?

Yeah that’s definitely for the best. Unfortunately for us it will just cost way too much for us to postpone. We’ve already spent so much as it is. It’s just frustrating because we are completely willing to make a very safe and fun event, but if the state still won’t let us have dancing I really don’t know how I’m gonna stop my guests from dancing if they want to. I’ll probably end up joining in with them. If the venue wants to kick me out they can try it I guess pfftt lol

I thought I saw they’re charging 1k to move it? Don’t you think when compared to the total investment for the day, that isn’t so terrible? I’ll tell you I’m being charged way more than that to move mine but the alternative is spend all that money for a wedding I don’t really want. Everyone of course has to do their own cost analysis at the end of the day of course

Lol yeah if it was just going to be 1K, we would definitely postpone. Unfortunately it’s going to be way more than that. The rooms that we’ve rented alone would be another $2000 loss. My vendors want money to push it out. Some of them are already booked so I’d be taking a loss on the deposit which would be thousands already spent. Your vendors didn’t charge you to move your date out?
