Junior Bridesmaid

Reeshma, on August 4, 2019 at 9:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hey 👋🏽 I’m having an intimate wedding with a small wedding party, but I’m including all my nieces and nephews in the wedding party (all 6 of them, along with my MOH and the BM). I want to do something for (or with) my Junior Bridesmaid to make her feel a part of it all. She’s my brother’s 12 year old step daughter. We’ve known each other since she was 3. We have a good relationship, but we aren’t as close as I am with the younger kids (all under 6, we’re all doing a wacky dance that the 12 year old doesn’t want to be a part of). Any ideas on what I can do to make her not feel like her only role is walking down the aisle? She’s very shy and won’t really do anything involving strangers. Keep in mind my wedding will only have 48 guests.

Sounds like my wedding but 3 junior bridesmaids are my actual sisters. They are ages 10, 14, and 15. I have raised all 3 like my own. But i dont know what you can do. My sisters are just excited to be part of the wedding somehow. Wearing a nice dress and getting their hair done. To be honest, they were ones that said they were the bridesmaids lol. Your brothers stepsister is at at a very awkward age. Just do what makes her feel comfortable. My wedding is also 48 guest so theres really nothing I can think of for them. Mine is just the ceremony and to take everyone out to eat.

She can walk in with the wedding party during the reception. Wear the same color as the bridal party. Be apart of the pictures. Get ready with you.

Yea but the other kids will be doing the same. I don’t have a bridal party other than them.

I only have a MoH and a Junior Bridesmaid but my MoH and I are very conservative ladies so though my junior bridesmaid is 13 she does everything we are doing. Going dress shopping, bachelorette, bridal shower, helping to decorate, whatever.

If you’re having a reading or unity ceremony maybe she could be in charge or bringing up the reading or items?

She's really shy. She doesn't want to do a dance, and i'm sure she won't want to do a reading either.

My daughter is my Jr. Bride and she and my soon to be stepson will light unity candle with us. She'll also speak at wedding reception.
