just a maid of honor and no bridesmaids

Would it be a bad idea to just have a maid of honor and best man, but no bridesmaids and groomsmen?

I've done that at both my weddings. (Okay, the second time, the male attendant was "Dude of Honor," because we didn't have a groom for him to be the Best Man for.) But it simplifies everything from dress shopping (you don't have to find matching dresses that flatter everyone's body type) to arrangements (you don't end up exhausted at the wedding from a big "girls' party" the night before). And we were able to give both of them gifts they would actually like, instead of coming up with trinkets that are identical for everyone.

We just had a MOH and a FG. DH couldn't pick between two friends so opted to not have a BM. No one said anything. I asked FSIL to be my MOH. The rest of our friends acted as guests.

You are not alone! We're having only one MOH and one BM, too, even though we may have as many as 200 guests. Neither moms are thrilled about it, but we aren't budging. We have plenty of friends, but we don't want to add more people just for the sake of having a larger bridal party.

I'm trying to stay in our budget as well, I don't want to go over, I'm really just trying to keep more money to spend on our honeymoon if anything. I don't want this to be stressful, brides are to suppose to be happy during our planning, I'm not trying to be a Bridezilla!!!!!..lol

We had a moh, bm, and 2 flower girls. We added the 2nd flower girl 2 days before the wedding to get the original girl to walk down the aisle. It worked great for us.

Not at all! Simple and intimate is lovely. I think it's definitely more meaningful to have one person in your party that you're really close to, than to add people just for tradition/appearance.
