Just curious - spin off of several wedding favor discussions

EdubbsWife™, on March 22, 2011 at 9:09 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 32

I am curious what kind of wedding favors people WOULD use. Many people have said they would throw it way, wouldn't use it, would leave it there, don't want it personalized, too chotsky, etc. What WOULD you take and use? I know people have said edible favors, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of the favor? Isn't the favor supposed to remind you of the couple and the wedding event? Or are my assumptions wrong?

I have my favor idea (thank you all who helped me figure it out) but I get really curious about this every time I see a favor question posted.

I love the seed paper favors and would def use them. I've also seen the mini "whisked away" whisks and I would use them but then again, I love to cook. I love anything edible and I always put candle favors to use although sometimes the personalized/chotsky votives eventually get trashed after the candle is gone. I also like wine bottle stoppers but I know that not everyone uses that kind of thing. Sometimes it's just hard to please a big group with one item.

Candle light? That says thank-you or your initials etched on it somehow...? I love using candles!

Honestly, I'd much rather see that money donated to a cause/charity that is special to thr bride/groom/couple/family. This is a great option for any couple with any budget. You can donate as much as you can afford without feeling cheap. It's going to a great cause.

I don't really like sweets, I hate trinkets, I would never use anything personalized and I like candles, but I hardly ever use them at home.

I'm doing playing cards. It might be a bit cheesy, but it has a significant meaning between us and a large group of our friends. I figured even if the cards get put away somewhere, they are something that everyone eventually uses or can start using for fun at any time. I'm not doing anything special to the cards themselves as that is too expensive, but I am making a slipcover of our wedding colours with our logo on to fit over the box.

I can't think of too many favors I'd want to keep, honestly. I'll have photos and memories to remind me of the couple and the wedding event, but the last thing I want is a coaster with their face on it or something like that.

Shot glass, ornament, book mark, photo of the bride & groom - or Hubby and I at the wedding (everyone seems to be doing photo booths now).

Personally, we are not big on giving something with our 'brand' on it. I mean we are already in people's faces all day already! LOL.

That said, we are thinking of doing place mats. or coasters (both bamboo) that will be usable but without any CK t. branding.

We did little penguin sculptures that DS made, and lo and behold almost everyone forgot to take one. Personally, I don't think I've EVER remembered to take the favor home from the wedding.

As a guest, I'd prefer the hosts roll that money towards a donation, a house fund, or a little more cash towards the bar.

I would use a book mark, shot glass, beer Kozzie, but I would prefer edible, and something specific to your region. Aren't you in MD? What about the Berger Cookies?

IMO- a favor is more of a Thank You for being apart of my special day. To be honest if I go to a wedding or any other function for that matter I don't want some stupid nic nac. I would prefer a cupcake, cookies or any other edible treat. Something that I would enjoy. I will remember your wedding everytime I eat a cupcake or have a cookie and would probaly mention how good your were at your wedding. That's just my 2 cents

I never thought the favor was supposed to remind you of the couple or the wedding. I thought it was a small trinket of appreciation to your guests for taking the time to attend the event.

I'm all about edible favors. A small bag of candy, or personalized chocolate bars or something.

Of all the weddings I've been to, I can't think of a single other type of favor I actually used, except one. The couple had some personalized notepads made up that had a cute love quote they had written on it, then it was attributed to the couple. Personalized, but not over the top. And everyone uses notepads!

The only favor I still have from a wedding is some local honey. But.. the only reason I have it is FH loves Honey!

We are doing $1 scratch off lottery tickets. Everyone will scratch them there so they are used.. and a little box of candy - whether they take it or not, oh well.

The only favor I have ever kept from a wedding (if you aren't counting edible favors, which I usually do eat, I LOVE chocolate) are the photo booth strips I have from a couple weddings I've been to in the last year. They are pics of FH and I, so we kept them in our photo album, and they have the couples' names and wedding dates on them to remind us of where the picture was taken.

I love it when couples give framed photos out.. my cousin had cheapo frames with a few different engagement photos and I nabbed my favorite one and it sits on a side table in my livingroom where I lovingly point out "here is my cousin and his new wife!" when people come over and look around! Smiley smile I'm a photo-holic anyhow so...

Edit: I wouldn't mind the charitable ones either btw! I think they are great!

We are thinking of doing edible favors, but I also like the idea of the lottery tickets and the charitable donation.

Well people would probably be upset with me because I don't keep wedding favors. At my sister's wedding, I didn't even take mine home. I purposely left it, because I didn't want it. Oh I did keep my Aunt's favor even though I don't use it. She gave out glass picture frames. I'm going to find a picture to put in it eventually.

Call me sentimental but I keep all my wedding favors, maybe that's why I have an internet Wedding & Party favor store. You can always find something useful. It does not have to be the same thing for everyone. Mix & match, depending on the personalities of you guests. Here are a few ideas. Come browe our site www.athankyoufavor.com Our Worldwide Favor tab takes you to our sister-site that has dozens of adorable favors that also ship internationally. Happy Shopping.

I'm with Edwina. I don't bother taking the favor unless it's food.

I would take a shot glass (with or w/out personalization), a pen (I'm a pen thief anyway), beer koozie or a keychain. Haven't been to any weddings tat gave those out though.

We are having a candy bar because we love candy and so do a lot of other people. I think its nice for everyone to pick what they want anyway. We also bouth little bells people can ring for us to kis, but we only got a little bit because I know people do leave favors behind. I like to keep my wedding favors, but that's cause I do Smiley laugh

I think bookmarks, cookie cutters, measuring spoons, notepads, the photo booth photos, wine stoppers/can openers, candles (that are in your colors/theme but maybe not personalized), and soaps are all good ideas of non edible things that people actually use. Someone posted some pictures of reusable grocery bags that would be nice too. But I do agree with everyone else, I wouldn't like something that's personalized.
