“Just don’t register and people will give you cash”.......

For me at least this has been the biggest lie I’ve heard on here lol. We had a small registry just for my shower. It wasn’t on our wedding website... my MOH just sent a link to the people who were invited to the shower. So as far as most people know, they go on the website and they don’t see a...
For me at least this has been the biggest lie I’ve heard on here lol. We had a small registry just for my shower. It wasn’t on our wedding website... my MOH just sent a link to the people who were invited to the shower. So as far as most people know, they go on the website and they don’t see a registry. Granted, this could change once the date gets closer, but so far not a single person has gotten the “we didn’t register because we want cash” hint that I was told would be implicit. In fact we’ve gotten a billion “where are you registered?!” questions, to which we responded truthfully that we had a small registry at bed bath and beyond but it was mostly for the shower, and since we’re moving almost immediately after the honeymoon we didn’t want to accumulate too much more stuff. And...... NO ONE is getting it. Every week, we’re getting people mailing gifts. Yesterday we got a giant full-kitchen set of pots and pans. Dont get me wrong... I’m very grateful for this and for everything people have sent us! But all these people KNOW I’m still living at my mom’s house, and they’re basically just making our move even more difficult and making my mom annoyed that I have all these boxes to store around her house for another 2 months 😒

This isn’t as much a complaint as it is just sharing my experience, that the advice of “just don’t register or have a small registry, and people will get it that you want cash” has been the opposite of true so far... anyone else had this experience??

I completely agree with you, I find it ridiculous that people say that. My aunt did not have a registry because she wanted cash, and instead she got random things she didn't want and a bunch of gift cards to stores she doesn't shop at. Assuming people will just "get the hint" is silly!

This is what my family would do too!! I do have registries though. My family rarely if ever gives cash/money in any form at weddings, we only give cash for birthdays. FHs family I’m not sure about, but my family is about 75% of our guestlist 😂 my registries are all public already because people already started asking me and I’ve received 3 items off of my registry so far. I’ve also been told by my grandmother that I need to add more because most of my items are under $50 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m just hoping they remember to mark items when they purchase because one of my cousins got 4 of the same crockpot at their wedding shower

We’re doing a honeymoon fund and a new house fund as part of our registry. The honeymoon fund has options of what they want to pay for: night out, couples massage, breakfast in bed, flight, hotel, etc. everyone knows we’re moving to our first home together before our wedding so we have a small registry but we also have another fund for our new house where people can put money towards : new furniture, backyard things, hosting items, linens, etc

We got a ton of random gifts we did not register for (or want honestly). Our registry was medium sized, and we figured most would give cash at the actual wedding. WRONG. We got so many gifts at our wedding and they were all so random. Not going to lie, I was slightly disappointed because I really didn't want this stuff. Not to sound ungrateful, but I'm picky!

Ugh, that's so frustrating. I'm mostly upset and frustrated because I am still living at my mom's house right now and planning to move out with FH after the wedding (and all of our guests KNOW THIS) so I have literally 0 use for anything on the registry at this point in time, and all the boxes are taking up half my mom's living room. I just checked and 4 more gifts were ordered this morning. I feel like I get an anxious pit in my stomach every time I see that someone has ordered from the registry...... theoretically I should be excited to be getting gifts?? But I'm beyond stressed to have an entire kitchen's worth of supplies that we now have to worry about storing in an already-full house for a couple months, and then moving. Ugh.

It is tacky to put registry information directly on the invitation. So, what we did was get a bunch of little business card size inserts from VistaPrint that said: "For further details and registry information, please visit..." and included a link to our wedding website. That way we got the information out there and skirted that tricky little etiquette issue!

This is funny only because in your case, it didn't matter what you did or didn't do. Your "crowd" shopped for anything and everything. That is dissappointing. I'm so sorry. You went through the work of literally putting it in their face what you wanted and got other stuff. Sad. Goes to show though that truly every crowd is a little different. I'm kinda hoping for some random things cuz I'm definitely not in on the know with the latest coolest kitchen gadgets and things like "nice" dinnerware would literally have to jump out and bite me. Lol.

You are so right that people will give what they want. My FH’s grandmother has bought 3 things, one was from our registry but she got it somewhere else so I had to take it off the registry myself. The other 2 items were just similar to what we had registered for. I’m grateful to get what we need but they’re not exactly what I WANTED. Has this happened to anyone else?
